It's worth noting that Arpaio's Maricopa County was the jurisdiction of a woman who got away with murder.
An Ahwatukee nurse who had a child from a one-night stand murdered the father after he quit his job to evade child support orders.
As a celler to the Tom Leykis Show, she proudly confessed that she went to his house, shot him with his own gun, and told the cops it was a suicide, who believed her.
Leykis vowed to bring her to justice, receiving at least one call from a Phoenix listener who remembered the details of the case and knew the people involved.
The killer was eventually identified (she used her middle name on the air), but was not prosecuted because the evidence was destroyed after five years per county policy.
Sheriff Arpaio seems to be the only law officer in the whole US who is enforcing immigration law. All the others have backed off for reasons of political correctness. It is a sad day when PC takes over our justice system, but we have long since passed that day in almost the entire country.
Maricopa county is a reminder of what the whole country used to be like. There was a time when this would have been unexceptional; today it is considered exotic. Sixty years ago, in south Texas, we routinely had wet backs dragged out and sent back to mexico. The whole process was none too polite. Today, the mexican police and army invade south Texas, so things have gone the other way around entirely.
On Immigration: illegals come here for one reaon--jobs. unish those who knowingly hire them and punish them. Such employers are avoing decent salaries and health protection etc. and if they did not hire illegals they would not come here. We know this because with the recession, many illegals have gone back home--no jobs for them here.
If there are 12 millions illegals, how do you round them up, let alone identify them, and ship them home? This problem has been with us a long time, and thus the numbers grew and grew...Now tell us how to get rid of them and with what armed forces, and with what money to do it? All that nice sheriff is doing is making sure the illegals go next door to his preserve. We are letting regular crimminals out of jail these days for lack of money. How can we lock up and/olr deport 12 million? raise taxes? are you for that?Use our military and thus create a national police force? are you for that? Require all people to carry identification papers? are you for that?
Ah, Fred the Red! Always thinking it is impossible to enforce our laws, so we just have to live with it.
Were it not for the Dimocrats, we could have E-verify required in all workplaces, and that would go a long way toward removing all of these folks. As you observed yourself, with no jobs, many of them will leave. So they will simply self-deport. That is simple and clean, no fuss, no muss. Just refuse them employment and put them out on the streets. Then mexico looks pretty good.
As to carrying papers, we may get to the point where we have to show a birth certificate (can you imagine?) to get medical care, etc. in order to keep illegals out of the system. This would not be outlandish. We need some means to force these people to go back where they belong.
fred, those industrious 12 million got here on their own. Once the illegal and often abusive jobs dry up, they will go somewhere else. So we need to have fewer people on welfare to take those jobs.

Later in the hour, Leykis received a call from a woman who said "I hope she never gets found!"
Leykis inquired and received: "Tom, you don't know what it's like to be in an abusive relationship!"
Leykis replied "...they did not _have_ a relationship. Are you advocating the death penalty for child support deadbeats?"
Apparently she was, as she stuck to her premise until she hung up on Leykis amid arguing.
I love listening to that show.

If even HALF of what's on LewRockwell.com is right, Sheriff Arpaio is a tyrant and his Stormtroopers are murdering parasites.
There has got to be better sheriffs that that guy in the country (but I shan't hold mine breath waiting to discover one).
