Maybe men "should take back the night"
I found it sort of (okay, really) ironic after reading a news article about University of Tennessee women at a "Take back the night" rally to highlight violence against women that two of the stories linked to this story were about....women's violence against men.
In the first story, a teacher is arrested with the statutory rape of a male student:
In the second news story, a woman is just now serving time (not much) for shooting her boyfriend through the head in 2005:
This murderer will have to serve only 35 percent of the 10 year prison sentence. I understand this is due to a technicality but 10 years wasn't much to begin with. And I wonder how this murder was counted? As a woman murdering a man? As some lesser crime due to it being voluntary manslaughter? Was it entered in the national data base at all as a woman killing a man?
Maybe it's time men who have been affected by female sexual and physical violence to"take back the night" but that will never happen. Men will rarely stand up for themselves and society sees their lives as expendable, especially when taken by a woman. Men will continue to be abused and will suffer or die in silence, or with the frequent sneer that "he deserved it."
Update: Here is yet another story linked from the same news site (WVLT) about a woman who killed her boyfriend (Good grief, how many are there?). Naturally, she again got only voluntary manslaughter and here is what she served:
In May 2008, the defendant pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in that case and was sentenced to three years in prison as a standard offender. According to her sentencing report, she was to serve 120 days in the county jail in 20-day increments -- with the remainder of her sentence as supervised probation.
Women just say the word, "domestic violence" and they are given a pass for killing, as in this case. When women's groups shout non-stop about domestic violence and violence against women, they plant the seeds in the culture that men are never victims. This is not true but people listen, despite evidence to the contrary.
Update II: DADvocate points out another case where a woman stabbed her husband 193 times, gets 25 years and has the verdict overturned (via Althouse blog). The case sounded familiar and I realized it was that of Susan Wright, one of the women profiled on the Oxygen show "Snapped" that I was on as an expert in 2004. The show is coming to the Biography channel soon according to a promo. That's the thing about cable. The shows are recycled forever.
In the first story, a teacher is arrested with the statutory rape of a male student:
FENTRESS COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Fentress County Grand Jury has indicted a high school teacher for allegedly having sex with a 16-year-old student.
Lindsey Seymour, 27 of Allardt turned herself in to Fentress County authorities on Thursday afternoon. She was officially charged with eight counts of statutory rape.
Seymour allegedly had the sexual encounters with the male student between June 2009 and September 2009. In late September, the teen’s parents complained to the district attorney about the contact.
In the second news story, a woman is just now serving time (not much) for shooting her boyfriend through the head in 2005:
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – The Blount County woman who gunned down her live-in boyfriend in June 2005 will begin serving her sentence on Monday.
April Jennifer Warren, 38 pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter on April 8th, 2008. According to police, she killed Charles Russell, 32 with a single shotgun blast to his head following an argument in their home on June 13th, 2005. Court records indicated she was performing CPR on Russell when police arrived on the scene.
Warren was sentenced to 10 years in prison on May 28th, 2008, but later appealed when it came out that Judge Mike Meares had contacted the family of the victim about the verdict. After sentencing Warren, Judge Meares apparently told Russell’s family that he gave her the maximum penalty with them in mind and asked that they support him in his upcoming election.

Yesterday's big news story was that 5 male teens raped a 15 year old girl in California where 15 others stood around and watched. I'm not saying all men are bad or all women are bad, but when it comes to night-time maybe nobody should be taking back the night, we should all be behaving.
Cham,
Good advice. If everyone would treat others with respect, we wouldn't have these problems.
Such events serve primarily to perpetuate the women as victims myth. Despite the fact that men make up three quarters of all murder victims as well as the victims of all other violent crimes except rape, no one cares.
As your husband says, it must be the boobies.
Dadvocate, men are the most common victims of rape as well. It is not counted on official statistics because most rape occurs in prison and is male on male.
That makes it unimportant and inconvienent to the feminist perspective on rape, so it is ignored.

I have "taken back the night" - I am very conservative in my dating choices, attempting to filter out at the get-go anyone who might do something like shoot me after an argument.
Before someone asks, yes, it is no way to live. It sucks having to worry about it and I feel like I am socially "underutilized." But if I value my life and liberty (and I do, very much) I don't really have a choice but to play it safe.
The other thing that stood out to me from the article was this sentence:
“They don't realize they've been sexually assaulted until we put on that program."
Is is really rape if the woman does not consider herself being raped until some feminist tells her?
i don`t think it is in our natures to rally to take back the night. the type of women who were doing the take back the night rallys were the typical angry feminist/lesbian types...and i`m not angry...and not particularly into civil disobedience like the several thousand women crowding lakeshore road in oakville a few years ago blocking late evening traffic for well over an hour while they walked with candles and sang kumbiyah.
to me that sort of thing is divisive. no man stands a chance around women who march like that. that is plain militancy.
like topher said, underutilised? maybe...safe? yep.
I had wondered when Mary Winkler was mysteriously given the 2 top and most expensive criminal defense attorneys in Tennessee, paid for by an unnamed source, if they were hired through the Violence Against Women Act funding and paid for in our tax dollars. I tried asking this question of my congressmen, wanting to know if this is possible and who is responsible for seeing to it that this does not happen, but they will not respond. Based on what I've read about the total lack of accountability associated with the $10 billion given to female supremacists through VAWA, there is really no reason not to believe that this is exactly where the money for her "dream team" lawyers came from, and that this is likely happening all across the country.
There is big money in hating males. Money is power. That's the bottom line.
I live in a small town in AZ and have not had the dubious “pleasure” of attending one of these events, but a few years ago was told by a man backEast that in his community, their “Take Back the Night” event was an excuse for all kinds of assaults and general bad behavior on the part of women.
As he lived on the parade route, he couldn’t get away from it. The first year he made the mistake of going out for ice cream or something at a store down the block, not knowing what was coming his way.
On the return trip he was punched, kicked, and spat upon, and somebody took the bag containing his purchase. As a lone male he was an easy target, and made sure he’d never go out at that time again.
I’m told of similar events in NoCal, those “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” things where otherwise decent, law-abiding women turn into thugs. The men roped into volunteering are screamed at, have rocks, used diapers and other things thrown at them, are tripped with broom handles. My buddy in Marin County tells me that police stand by as they would for any demonstration, but all they do is stand by.
He told me one year he asked one of those cops why they weren’t making any arrests for these clear, obvious assaults, and all the cop did was shrug and walk away.
I’ve always found it very strange that proponents of these “Violence Against Women” laws and policies so often use them as an excuse to commit violent acts against men. Two wrongs still don’t make a right in the realm of logic. But feminist logic is something else entirely...
Just saw this at Ann Althouse, a woman was convicted to 25 years for killing her husband by tying him up and stabbing him 193 times. She got the sentence overturned by claiming it was in self defense.
Yeah, I've been attacked numerous times by people tied up to chairs. And, of course, he wasn't available to say otherwise. Who was the most abusive, him or her?
DADvocate beat me to it. In fact, in the comments, I speculate hot discussion here.
Odd how often the dead are portrayed as the aggressors by those facing sentencing, ain't it? Minendez(sp)?
It's cowardly, but then, what she and they did was to begin with.
My 2¢ on 'take back'. I simply provide statistics when I hear some gal spout nonsense.
again, groups are given special priveleges that individuals don`t have access to.
males aren`t part of a recognisable group politically, and so don`t have a team to play the game for.
nice little three lock box to be in, whether you realise it or not.
my brother lives on the take back the night route and i warned him not to go out...but he just gave me a blank look.
men don`t traditionally form groups politically like this and so we find ourselves feeling strange and oddly powerless in the face of things like that which memphis points out, whereby a woman can get a politically funded dream team to represent her.
fact remains that i won`t lower myself to thier level to "win" a shitty little game like that.
in contrast, i play each year in a charity game against the women`s teams in soccer to raise money for local food banks. we all know the boys are better at the game of soccer and at half time we mix the teams up and the girls are grateful.
no feminist crap, no he-man bullshit. just good old fun.
though one year the girls were up 1-0 at half and a thunderstorm ended the match.
the boys are still sore over that one......
DADvocate,
Thanks for pointing out that article on Susan Wright, a killer who was profiled on the show "Snapped" that I an expert on in 2004. It's hard to believe she may have the sentence overturned. Stabbing someone 193 times? Shows a lot more than just "self-defense."
and it is interesting to see that our society is promoting psychotics as ideal role models.......
Men kill men. Men kill women. Women kill men. Women kill women.
Kill hate and violence.
The routine and ritual genital mutilation of male minors isn't even illegal in this country.
Langley man loses testicle after random, vicious kick by woman.

Randomly walking around kicking men in the crotch. That's just hilarious. But hey, who cares, it's just men.

The Archivist,
Thanks for the link. Notice that the guy was so embarrassed, he didn't go to the police for weeks. This is part of why women get away with what they do.
I don't think they see the grouping of stories as ironic. Just as many on that side see the Christian/Newsom case as a matter of just deserts. They seem to believe that violence against men and whites is correct, even a good thing. They see it as empowerment and proper vengeance. Watch your back, that is all I am saying.
At some point the flash back from this is going to burn minority allowances, along with minority say, perhaps even minorities, right down to the ground. Hopefully there will be some kind of political return to common sense and academic changes to prevent that, but I do not see anything like that on the radar.
Especially when the seemingly greatest hope for the "conservative" ticket is a product of feminism. I do not think the leaders of this country understand what is going to happen, but it will happen. Whether it is caused by a financial falling or a political 'end of the rope' deal, changes will happen. Then again, if the vast majority of Americans are willing to simply take it, then our days are numbered anyway. The fat dumb and lazy grads who are falling out of high and higher school are no match for those who want what is here. They are merely weak barbarians, to weak to resit the hungry barbarians.
I think there are some who are ready, when the time is right, if needed. Without the military, it might be suicide. Though I think the options may be worse. Time will tell. But this stuff will end or the nation will fall. Whichever way it goes, whoever loses will pay most dearly. The South knows nothing about oppression. I wish it could end differently, but at this point...
