Ask Dr. Helen: Is this election causing more male bashing?
My PJM column is up:

Is it open season on men this election year? I have noticed an upswing in the amount of blatant male bashing going on in the media and blogs as of late. Let me give you a few examples.

It's just a simple fact. The angrier women are at men (or the angrier blacks are at whites, to name just one of many possible examples), the more they vote democrat. Couple that with the fact that most of the establishment press and hollywood are pulling for the democrats, and exacerbated by the fact that many of them are foaming at the mouth and having seizures over their bitter hatred for President Bush, and you have the volume turned up in this election year in particular.
I'm not saying all democrats are like this, I'm saying the people who are like this tend to vote democratic.
Male bashing is always with us because the women doing the bashing truly, unequivocally do view men, as a demographic, as more "powerful" than the demographic they identify with. Put aside the fact that this is simplistic in the exteme and ignores so many nuances and exceptions that it's downright silly. They think that way because it helps them make sense of the world.
In this election, male bashing is more prevalent, in my opinion, because the pundits are now treating white men, for the first time, as a separate "swing" demographic. It is white men who boosted McCain, who ordained that Hillary would lose to Obama, and who elevated Palin. And white men are the ones least likely to buy into the sacred cow of the Democratic party: the need to redistribute wealth to support working people -- especially single working mothers (and single working mothers are the patron saints of the Democratic party).
I don't think the election causes the male-bashing; however, due to the voting season's propensity to draw out people's opinions for public display, it definitely invites the opportunity to flavor one's views with sexism of choice. Rather oddly, I haven't heard any "Who does this dumb broad think she is?" line of sexism as re Hillary or Sarah. And to me, that's very significant.
I read your Pajamas post. If a woman told me it was my purpose in life to open the door for her, I'd tell her "Sure. Just as soon as you get back into the kitchen and bake me a f'n pie!"
The pendulum swingeth, and the pendulum swingeth back again.
Agree with your PJM article fully, Helen.
However, I have noticed that white, college educated women ( who have been indoctrinated by leftist academic feminists), seem to always be bitching about "privileged, white men". Muslim men, or black men beating their wife, or muslims committing honor killings, well that dont even bat their eyelids at such reports. It is the "white men" that are evil, ya know?

As for the young male staffer who was supposed to open doors for Kathy Griffin, if he followed your suggestion, he would probably be a former young male staffer staffer. Go ask a cross-section of secretaries what kinds of demeaning things they have had to do for their male or female jerk bosses. Better yet, ask people who has just gotten out of Army/Navy/Air Force/Marine/Coast Guard boot camp what they had to do. It isn't a matter of being male or female; it's a matter of being very subordinate in the hierarchy.
In Pajama Media, Sissy Willis quotes somebody as writing:
"Men in traditional agricultural societies and poorer countries seem more cautious and anxious, less assertive and less competitive than men in the most progressive and rich countries of Europe and North America."
I have to wonder if there are real differents in the incentive structures in these different types of societies, in other words, do progressive/rich countries have more "winner takes all" incentive structures in social relations. "Winner takes all" tends to promote greater competition and more risk taking.
I have noticed more clearly sexist and misogynistic statements since Palin was nominated than I have EVER seen. I mean, it is a little embarassing to watch.
I had not noticed an increase in misandry, maybe because I tend to ignore it. That is part of the problem, full grown men know that someone calling them names is not worth noticing, much less addressing.
At the same time, that means we will be too busy doing what we do to speak up against the people who do nothing but talk bad about men. It takes time away from what makes us men to address the drek, so we just keep being men.

This is nothing new. One need only look at two songs, recorded roughly 5 years apart, some 40-35 years ago. The first, "Thank You" by Led Zeppelin. The second, "Cherry Bomb" by the Runaways (the first all-girl rock band). When the lyrics are interspersed, everything becomes clear. [Note. These lyrics are from memory.]
"Thank You"
If the sun refused to shine
I would still be loving you
When mountains crumble to the sea
There will still be you and me
Kind woman, I give you my all
Kind woman, nothing more
"Cherry Bomb"
Can't stay at home, can't stay in school
Old folks say, poor little fool
Down the street I'm the girl next door
I'm the fox you've been waiting for
Hello, Daddy Hello, Mom
I'm your ch-ch-ch-ch Cherry Bomb
Hello, World, I'm your wild girl
I'm you're ch-ch-ch-ch Cherry Bomb
"Thank You"
Little drops of rain
Whisper of the pain
Tears of loves lost in the days gone by
If our love is strong, then there is no wrong
Together we shall go until we die
Blow my mind
An inspiration's what you are to me
An inspiration, love to see
"Cherry Bomb"
Stone age love and strange sounds too
Come on, boy, let me get to you
Bad nights causing teenage blues
Come on, ladies, you got nothing to lose
Hello, Daddy Hello, Mom
I'm your ch-ch-ch-ch Cherry Bomb
Hello, World, I'm your wild girl
I'm your ch-ch-ch-ch Cherry Bomb
Uh uh uh uh
"Thank You"
And so today my world it smiles
Your hand in mine, we walk the miles
Thanks to you, it will be done
For you to me are the only one
Happiness, no more to be sad
Happiness, I am glad
"Cherry Bomb"
Hey, street boy, what's your style
Dead end dreams don't make you smile
I'll give you something to live for
Have you, grab you, till you're sore
Hello, Daddy Hello, Mom
I'm your ch-ch-ch-ch Cherry Bomb
Hello, World, I'm your wild girl
I'm your ch-ch-ch-ch Cherry Bomb
Cherry Bomb Cherry Bomb Cherry Bomb
"Thank You"
If the sun refused to shine
I would still be loving you
Mountains crumble to the sea
There will still be you and me
Thank you Thank you Thank you
Can there be any more stark example of the difference between the way men view woman and the way women view themselves?
Can there be any more obvious example of the change that took place in the 1970s?
It was a change in the attitudes of women, the change to a bad attitude.
Men haven't changed; they still love women. Women have changed, and for the worse; they now hate men.
@gawainsghost: That's from memory? Your memory is better than mine!
Still, that's a case of cherry-picking (no pun intended). Popular arts have become much more coarse, and you needn't look further than rap lyrics to see women-hating lyrics.
However, your post is very thought-provoking and on-target.
I pretty much agree with Trey except I've seen plenty of misandry to go with the misogyny. With Hillary and Palin thrown into the mix, gender related hate statements seem to be at an all time high.
Pitting factions against each other was a speciality of Richard Nixon but Clinton/Gore practiced it with near perfection. Now the left in general has gone overboard but fewer and fewer people are buying into int.
I used to watch D List. Kathy Griffin is pretty much a dick to everyone, male or female. Much like Andy Dicks is.
To give her credit, she has done a couple of entertainment tours in Afgan(?) and seemed genuinely in awe of the men and women serving there.
Cross post from PJM:
The current attitude is the inevitable result of the progression of liberal feminism which doesn’t believe in female equality, but in female power and posits that that power must come at the expense of male power. Men therefore become the enemy.

I'll go one step further--the old type feminist politics did work. (Even if it could have been more effective using other means.) But now it's not only run it's course, the very laws and policies that liberal feminists advocated are now backfiring on them. Men aren't just caving--they are lashing back using the very laws the liberal feminists caused to be passed.
(A big mistake liberal feminists made was to project their own militant view of the world onto men as a whole. They assumed, and still assume, that men have the same traitorous nature as themselves; that men carry grudges the same way as women or as as vindictive. In short, they believed that men were simply women with penises. Now that they find this isn't true, they've flown into a fit of rage. Notice, for example, that the biggest targets for feminists are non-metrosexual nice guys. I think this is why they hate Palin--she isn't a bitter man-hating bitch like themselves.)
Seems the whole world has noticed the libs tearing into Palin. I have been scratching my head trying to figure out exactly what it is about her that threatens them so, beyond the obvious.
Gingrich hit the nail on the head.
She's happy. She is truly happy. That must really piss 'em off.
What I've noticed more than anything is a dramatic increase in the number of commercials in which white males simply don't exist at all and there is only white women and a lone black male. It's everywhere, too, from GM truck commercials to insurance to online colleges, and the ads are run during anything from the Olympics to Monday Night Football. Apparently simply excluding white males altogether is the newest feminist fad.
Absolutely and I think when you realize that 54% of the voting public is women... that the father of the most unconstitutional, anti-father/male legislation (VAWA) is the VP on one ticket... a woman is a VP on the other ticket...
...the easiest way to elicit the attention of voting women is to blame the ills of all society on the evil, abusive, predatory male.
Between the bashing and the blatant pandering to women... as most of what I see talks about "women and families" and "domestic violence towards women" and the disgraceful discussion of the mythological wage gap and "equal pay for equal work" - a pay gap that has been systematically debunked for eons now... (and there's more)... it's no wonder.
Watch how bad it gets as we get closer. It frigging disgusts me to no end.
