Fit and fat works up to a certain age. And for certain things.
For example, most doctors cannot believe that I am not on statins because I am fat. I have low cholesterol -- it's really not related to body size. My much younger Army strong, slender, and fit son-in-law has high cholesterol.
The arteries in my heart are clear. I had to prove this to join a gym - yes, I had to have a cardiac cath to join a gym.
My joints? meh... they're not so fit and it's not all due to hereditary arthritis. My weight plays a big part in this. And this plays a big part in my activity level.
Heavier people have a better chance at surviving cancer (and it's treatments.)
My brother is skinny because he's and alcoholic and much prefers booze to food. He's not healthier than I am.
So, the bottom line is EACH individual is different.
I have two major health problems at the moment. One is the various side effects of a benign brain tumor. Should I blame my weight on that one?
The other is various gastroenterology problems resulting from bariatric surgery which was not very successful in reducing my weight. The result of trying drastic measures to lose weight rather than being overweight.
Not being a perfect body size and not having features considered beautiful are not indicators of actual health. They are especially not indicators of the $$amt one racks up in health care costs.
