Micha Elyi,
Thanks so much for finding this, I put it up as up update.
Recently, Natalie Portman, an unwed mother to be, criticized racist John Galliano, and Mike Huckabee criticized Portman as a poor role model.
Then, almost as if on cue, "America's Rabbi" Shmuley Boteach chimed in with the usual mantra:
* "Mr. Huckabee’s ire ought to be directed toward the men who are the real problem."
* "there is a broken code of male honor. Men treat women casually and hedge their bets. And why not? If you can have a woman commit to you without having to reciprocate the whole marriage thing seems a bit gratuitous."
* "most abortions are the product of men sleeping with women whom they don’t love, impregnating them, and abandoning them. These are not men but inseminators, hormonally-driven walking sperm banks. Abortion thrives in a society that has witnessed the end of love and the rise of the hook-up. Yes, women have to learn to respect themselves but more importantly parents and schools must inculcate within men a desire to be gentlemen again."
* "So instead of beating an endless drum on abortion, why not focus on the real problem. Is there anyone of any political persuasion who would condone men using women as masturbatory material and disappearing from their lives?"
* "there are way too many men who leave the picture as soon as the woman is pregnant."
* "it’s not the women who are abandoning these kids, Mike, but the men."
* "the same applies to so many of these recent racist tirades, nearly all of which are being committed by broken and messed up men."
Shmuley is "America's Rabbi." Perhaps he can point me to the verse in the Torah where it says men are responsible for all of women's behavior.
I guess he also missed the current situation where a man can't. disappear from the woman's life... they'll send men with guns to get his money and throw him into a debtors prison if he doesn't cough it up. Even if the child is not his, even if the child was conce

Outstanding interview, Doc!
I didn't realize that Rabbis could be Muslim!

Wow, what a devastating quote trust.
Trey
I think much of this problem starts in elementary school. Too many women teachers can't or don't want to handle boys. Also, part of the disconnect stems for too many boys being raised by single mothers and those kids don't respect a female voice. That leads to discipline problems at school. I have a grandson who is a go-getter. As a result, he is likely to be sidelined academically. His parents have to especially aware of this problem. Otherwise, he may be lost by middle school age.
I assume this is a quote from Rabbi Schumley:
"most abortions are the product of men sleeping with women whom they don’t love, impregnating them, and abandoning them. These are not men but inseminators, hormonally-driven walking sperm banks. Abortion thrives in a society that has witnessed the end of love and the rise of the hook-up. Yes, women have to learn to respect themselves but more importantly parents and schools must inculcate within men a desire to be gentlemen again.”
The Men’s perspective could be stated by a slight revision, as follows:
"most abortions are the product of women sleeping with men whom they don’t love, setting themselves up to be impregnated and abandoned. These are not women but [semen] dumpsters. Abortion thrives in a society that has witnessed the end of love and the rise of the hook-up. Yes, men have to learn to be responsible but more importantly women must reclaim a desire to associate with good men who respect them and may even like them."
I’d like to amend the first sentence of what I called the “Men’s perspective” to read as follows:
"most abortions are the product of women sleeping with men whom they don’t love, do not know very well, in fact whose name they may not know, thereby fulfilling every adolescent wet dream he ever had, and thus setting themselves up to be impregnated and abandoned...”
That Rabbi idiot represents everything wrong with organized religion today, and proves that the dominant ideology in the US today is not Christianity, leftism, etc. but rather misandry.
That idiot Rabbi has no idea that tons of women attempt to trap pen into pregnancy by poking holes in condoms, taking condoms out of the garbage, etc. This is so that these women can get a free ride, set for life.
That disgusting rabbi is a loser for sure.
Flash Gordon - you are cutting women way too much slack.
Schmuley is a boring, self-indulgent always right, politically correct Momma's boy who happens to be a Rabbi.
I listened to him for a short while on WABC Radio in NYC (he had a two hour program on Sunday afternoon) but quickly grew tired of his "upside down" take on too many issues.
He didn't last on a Conservative venue like WABC. Boring and wears "blinders". That was my opinion of him, of course. I was pleased when they got rid of his show after a short period.
Dr Helen,
Your radio interview is great--I recommend it to everyone.
I think Shmuley needs some truth in advertising, so I'd suggest he try these slogans:
* A Shmuley Made Man: Unleash Your Inner Gamma
* Rabbi Shmuley Marital Counseling: Ensuring Roissy is more likely to sleep with your wife than you are.
@Trust: You owe me a new fucking monitor and one Starbucks French roast!
If Schmuley Boteach isn't the biggest mangina in America, it isn't for lack of trying.
Have a look at the great men of the Old Testament (or for you Jews, Hebrew Scriptures). Did Abraham, Nathan, King David, Elijah, or Isaiah embrace the lame philosophy that Rabbi Schmuley "Women are Everything" Boteach now peddles? I think NOT
Wondering who are the bigger suckers; the millions of American men who attended Promise Keepers events thinking their women would find honesty, integrity and sexual purity attractive, or the women over the last few decades who strove mightily to denigrate men and marriage and who are now upset that men won't man up?
There is a wonderful novel that I am reading for probably the 20th time. Two of my daughters have read it. It is called A Town LIke Alice and is about a man and a woman who meet in war time under terrible circumstances, who find each other again 6 years later, and who build a life together as people once did.
I just cannot think of a book that is more antithetic to the mores described as present day young adult and teenage culture.
Neville Shute, the author, has been dead over 50 years and all his books are, not only in print, but in Kindle editions.
@Douglas said... the women over the last few decades who strove mightily to denigrate men and marriage and who are now upset that men won't man up?
_______________
In other words, women are truly offended that men choose to behave like the bastards they say they loath yet sleep with, instead of the men they say they prefer yet ignore?
I'm not genius, but when men are given the chose between being the ass who gets fucked silly in the bedroom, or the good guy who gets ass raped in divorce court, most would chose the former. And it isn't because they are self-serving jerks either. It's like asking a woman to choose between a back massage and being a maid... choosing the former doesn't mean they are lazy, it just means they'd rather be treated well than do unappreciated dirty work.
Good interview, Dr. Helen. Can't say enough how I appreciate you getting the word out.
Douglas:
Sadly, I believe you're right. I've never participated in Promise Keepers, so I can only go on my impressions. That being said, PK appears to be predicated on the flawed notion that men have 100% of the responsibility in their marriages. The women either have none, or it's conditioned/contingent on the husband's performance. I think this is wrong on not just a practical level, but a theological one as well.
I have a different take on Promise Keepers.
I have not been to a meeting, but I would likely go, because of the husband I want to be. I do not buy that men are to blame for marital ills, it is a people problem, not a gender problem. I tried just focusing on myself when married to a bipolar woman and it helped me but it did not help the marriage needless to say.
I have been in a good and a bad marriage, and how I wanted to act did not change much. It sure was easier to act right in a happy marriage, but I want to be an honest, hard working, sober, faithful husband.
If my wife did not want to hold similar values I would want to be an honest, hard working, sober, faithful x husband.
Trey
dunkle, I totally agree with your critique, I just am not familiar enough with PK to chime in. We see the world in similar ways.
Trey
Trey -
appreciated, and perhaps I should have been more advised in my comments. Like I said, I've never participated but that's the impression I get on the surface. I could be wrong!
Whether it infects PK or not, though, that viewpoint is not uncommon in the modern American church. It's definitely something to be smoked out and guarded against, if you're part of that community.
Oh, and I certainly don't mean to suggest that striving to be a better man or husband is necessarily a bad thing. However, as you noted, the wife needs to share and appreciate those values for it to work. That's the part of the equation that I think is all too often glossed over or ignored.
It's good to have people to talk to who share viewpoints and common experiences. People like you, Trey, are one of the reasons why I visit this blog so often.
Hey pal, I certainly took no offence, I would need to be less ignorant to take offense! 8)
Thanks for the kind words. You rock pal, please continue!
Trey
have you read marriage vows recently?
obedience needs to be defined, or re-defined as something to share between two people who LOVE eachother, and not a mechanism of opression as the feminists have so entirely convinced women over the last 100 years.
if you feel oppressed, don`t take the deal.
one of the elements of intelligence is pattern recognition.
if you recognise that the pattern of marriage as a behaviour induces oppression, then the intelligent thing to do is to avoid the behaviour...unless you have an ace up your sleeve...which we know you do dear.
Trey - thanks, buddy, back at you.
I have nev er heard of Americda's rabbi. There is no such think, of course...Portman is smart, pretty, talented, a scientist--and engaged. Now turn to Palin;'s daughter...does Huckster badmouth her?
Women crap on men. Men crap on women.
Not all of the men and not all of the women. Women bash males. Men bash women. It is all a part of God's plan
fred, in some ways you are right in that some men and some women bash eachother, but the fact remains that within the context of this post, we are sick of the male-bashing that is pervasive amongst the majority of women....and has been since is was a child during the sixties.
i think helen reddy had quite a bit to do with that.
