"Atlas Shrugged is a dot-by-dot four-color prophecy of the economic disaster and individual liberties threats we see today...."
I am reading a recent copy of The New Individualist that has an interesting interview with Anne C. Heller, the author of Ayn Rand and the World She Made. She discusses the five years it took her to write the biography and how difficult a job it was to find accurate sources and the time consuming research that went into the book. Heller is asked about the reasons for a revival of Rand's work and stated: "The main reason, however, has to be that from one perspective, at least, Atlas Shrugged is a dot-by-dot four-color prophecy of the economic disaster and individual liberties threats we see today and that Rand wrote about so brilliantly fifty years ago."
You can read more about Heller's work at her website www.anneheller.com.

As much as many prognosticators and so-called experts are saying President Obama is going to have a tough time getting re-elected, the reality of the situation is that President Obama will get re-elected against almost any potential GOP challenger.
However, one candidate cannot be over-looked. If we learned anything from 2008, we should've learned that organization and social media skills are paramount to a campaign. No one is actually going to "come out of nowhere". To become the most powerful person in the world, you have to build quite an organization. That's why only one person has a chance to beat President Obama in 2012.
This will make it all clear:

RE: 'Heh'
I'll believe it's a threat...a REAL threat....when people like the blogfather start acting like it's a threat.
Until they start treating it as such, it's not worth the trouble of trying to spearhead the resistance.
In the meantime, I keep asking him when he's going to start treating it as a 'threat' instead of some sort of political 'bun fight'.

....someone is supposed to come from 'out of nowhere', to become the most powerful person in the world.
Please pardon my blatant christianity, but that's the 'report'. And the more things go down the toilet, the more likely that prophetic writing is likely to occur.

Hi Dr. Helen: Glad you're enjoying the interview. Readers can find it online here. --Sherrie Gossett, editor, The New Individualist
Atlas Shrugged is a version of a possible eventuality, not a definite and only one. As for things going down the road to where people not only give up but lose the hope that is the engine or turn to alternatives, we may or may not already be past that tipping point.
Society is like a roast (hush, listen a second). When it is in the oven, you cook it until it reaches a certain temperature, then take it out. While resting, the roast will continue to rise in temperature. At this point, we are still in the oven but have we hit the preset temperature already. Are we actually beyond it and the roast is ruined? How many people are hopelessly stuck on government pay, monies, or protections? Yeah, not good.
Still, there are a lot of ways this can go down. The thing is, it probably is going down. A currency, or all of them, based on faith as they are, in a world of growing doubt? The vampires, werewolves, and heathen barbarians are sharpening their tools as we write. Still, as always, there is hope, even of flesh.

Obama is a puppet. He can't even talk without a Teleprompter. He is the first candidate to claim there are 58 (from memory) states in the US. His is as fake as a three dollar bill.
I am amazed the number of people who haven't bothered to find out what is really happening in the world yet try and present themselves as having an 'informed opinion'. Most people are as ignorant as the rocks on the road they drive over each day.
Ms. Gossett,
Thanks for the link.

That perspective would have to be one that ignores the fact that the executives in Atlas Shrugged talk as if they believe that the role of their enterprises is to nurture people, rather than to earn profits. I've been around dozens of corporate senior executives, venture capitalists, investment bankers, etc., and I've never heard one talk like the ones in Atlas shrugged.
I am an innocent when it comes to things economic, but it seems to me that Milton Friedman was as close as we can get to a Galtian world, and yet Uncle Milty's role --an important one--was responsible rather curative for the mess we currently have
@Political - Obama himself "came out of nowhere". Just ask Hillary Clinton.
Rand wrote the book MORE than fifty years ago. Look at the copyright.
The liberals hate her because she saw through them right from the start. As literature the book is nothing. But it's amazing how this woman saw exactly where this country was headed....and it looks like we're almost there.
Anyone who won't give credit where it's due, probably hasn't read the book in the first place.
i am reading an analysis of willian blake by j.bronowski, wherein it becomes clear that blake is documenting the erosion of working wages of factory workers in the factories of england in the 18th century.
a man`s wage went from 60 shillings a week to one or two within 30 years as machines took over the labour of men, to the point where his wife and children had to come in to the factory as well if they were to eat.
as we stop making things in north america we will face similar things...unless government hires all of us (and not just the women.)
try watching this.
