I am unexpectedly happy today!
The true, philio-spirit of Valentine's Day has been ripped away by commercialism and become another brick in entitlement, leading Marc Rudov to lead a boycott of "the least romantic day in the calendar." Watch the ads, 19 out of 20 have a doofus man buying something for the love of his life, he lives in fear of her anger if he doesn't keep up with the Jonese. The other ad (just saw it this week) has a woman buy a man a greeting card.
However, I was VERY pleasantly surprised when my lady friend gave me a small gift and a card and gave no hint of feeling "entitled" to romance from me. Thus we actually had a spontaneous, enjoyable and mutually ego-free day! Really the way it ought to be!
And Happy Valentine's Day to the Dr Helen posse. It's really nice to have a place where our concerns as men are validated, and we can vent without being banned for phantom "misogyny."

You make a good point, blahga. The F-words have tried to re-make Valentine's Day into an activist holiday highlighting violence against women.
I think it has all the feel of a guilt trip - women who enjoy the romance are made to feel guilty they aren't in an abusive relationship (which is portrayed as tragically common), and men are to be guilted because other men beat their women.
Most violent relationships are mutually violent.
Most children who are killed die at the hands of a woman (not even counting abortion.)
So I say we forgive women and buy them something nice anyway.
