I just read on a Politico tweet that John Murtha died. Does anyone know if this is accurate?
Update: Thanks to all the readers who quickly responded. RIP, Mr. Murtha.

According to WJAC the local Johnstown tv station, Rep Murtha died at 1.18pm. You can find the story here http://www.wjactv.com/news/22500487/detail.html
Google News indicates that's the general concensus.

Andrew Breitbart's site is showing an AP report confirming it:

RIP, Mr. Murtha
Thanks to all of you for the links. This info wasn't up when I was searching. I am saddened to hear the news, I didn't realize he was sick and the surgery he went in for was pretty routine (gall bladder surgery).
God bless his family and loved ones.
Trey
Yeah, it's accurate. Buh-bye Johnboy...
Not the way I would have liked to see him leave office.
Lets get the Tea Party machine going and get a conservative to replace him asap.
My condolences to his family and friends.

RE: Murtha's Passing
Not so concerned about his death as I am about the cause.
Based on what I know, he was in for some gall bladder surgery. They developed 'complications'. He died of the 'complications'.
Three guesses as to what constituted the 'complications'. The hospital isn't talking about em, BUT, I suspect sloppy disinfection and MRSA.
A member of my Mens' Bible Study Group has a friend who was taken into the hospital for a bad reaction to H1N1, i.e., pneumonia. While in there he got MRSA and they had to start cutting body parts off in order to save him.

P.S. Maybe....
....just MAYBE....
....if enough important people die, someone in government will begin to give a damn about the problem. A problem that certain countries in Europe have tackled head-on and are winning.
Anwn,
He's gone. Doesn't really matter how he leaves office...
Yeah, that's harsh, but not any worse than what I've heard lefties say when a conservative dies.
A NOTE...
WHEN ONE DIES, UNLESS A TOTALLY EVIL PERSON SUCH AS HITLER, IT IS CUSTOMARY IN CIVILIZED SOCIETY TO ALLOW A BIT OF TIME TO PASS BEFORE DUMPING DIRT ON HIS BODY.
IN SUM: NOT AN APPRORPEATE TIME TO STATE YOUR OWN VIEWS ON PUBLIC MATTERS.
You may not like him, his party etc,but he was a war hero and loved his country.
Too bad he hated his fellow Marines, and filed to apologize to them after he slandered them for political advantage, fred. But you can hope that doesn't become the sum of his legacy if it makes you feel better.
Fred,
Spare me. I'd retort, but Peter said what I was going to say, so there's no point.
I would, however, say that if Murtha loved his country, he sure had a strange way of showing it. Sorry, but I don't think calling your constituents a bunch of insulting names is exactly love.
BTW, I said much worse when that slug Kennedy croaked.

RE: The Report....
....from the hospital where he died claims that he suffered a damaged large intestine during the procedure. And peritonitis set in.
Odd....
Why?
[1] Gall bladder procedures are considered routine. Doctors have to be rather 'incompetent' to foul them up.
[2] The gall bladder dumps into the SMALL intestine. Not the large. How the large intestine could be damaged in a routine procedure that is closer to the small one is 'interesting'.
[3] We have drugs that are good at dealing with peritonitis.
I suspect that the hospital might be looking for a scapegoat in the event it WAS a MRSA infection that did him in.
RE: Was This a 'Break' for Democrats?
!!! WARNING....CONSPIRACY THEORY....WARNING !!!
Out of curiosity, was Murtha up for re-election in 2010?
I thought I heard that he was. AND, I thought I heard that despite efforts on the part of the DNC to dissuade him from running, he was going to go ahead, instead of giving another Democrat—with less 'baggage', i.e., a better chance—a shot at the seat.
If my understanding of this is correct, his passing IS a boon to the Democrats.
Quoi Bono?
Regards,
Chuck(le)
P.S. I'm reminded of the odd circumstances surrounding former Secretary of Labor Brown's passing....
That is a ridiculous conspiracy theory.
By what mechanism do you persuade a medical professional to make a "mistake" that takes the life of a congressional rep?
The fall out from this will be incredible and from what I am reading, the Dems are worried about holding his seat.
If it was intentional (and it would be insane to think it was), I don't think the Dems have the requisite level of motivation or high enough stakes to do that.
I don't wish ill will to any of my political opponents - just utter political failure and repudiation of their beliefs but if all the progressives were to go retire to a colony somewhere, I would wish them a long and happy life - out of power.

[When all the other explanations have been eliminated, whatever remains, however improbable, MUST be the truth.]
P.S. About the Dems worrying....

The Dems were MORE worried about his running for that seat again. That's why they were trying to dissuade him from attempting it.
The Democrats are not any more competent at carrying out ridiculous conspiracies than the Republicans are. It was an avoidable but natural death. MRSA is avoidable. It requires cleanliness to avoid it.
