"Anger is an energy"
I read this line from a Johnny Rotten (the Sex Pistols) song on Gateway Pundit from a commenter (comment #62) in response to the passing of the Democrat's Healthcare bill last night.
The commenters at Gateway Pundit are debating whether or not there is anything that can be done to stop the Dems from passing this bill. Rotten's line is a good one as a metaphor for the fight against a statist government that desires to take over our liberty, our economy, and even our very lives. Often, I hear Republicans and conservatives say that we are "doomed." This negative cognitive self-talk is pathetic. It is crippling. Don't engage in it.
You are never doomed until you are dead. There is always something that can be done. The anger of the American public is only just beginning. It is an energy that will be needed in the coming days, weeks and months to protest, stand up, debate, argue and get in the face of every government official, public figure and others who support a bill that leads us down The Road to Serfdom.
And even if the bill passes, we can continue the fight, for they have won only a cultural battle, not the culture war. Culture changes politics, not the other way around. I will be fighting back against a culture that leads to less individual autonomy in every way I know how. Will you?

I'll be fighting. One of my primary goals is to make sure Sherrod Brown doesn't serve another term as senator from Ohio. My Congresswoman is already against the current health care reform.
Perseverance is one of my stronger personality traits, some times for better, sometimes for worse. I try to pick my battles wisely, but I never give up. This is something more than worth fighting over.
In the immortal words of Rowan and Martin, "Bet your sweet bippy!"
count me in on the fight, we have lost a battle, but we have only just begun to fight, and now is not the time to get cold feet. Now is the time to stand up and be heard.
Should this bill be enacted, there will be hundreds of thousands, maybe millions of people who will engage in civil disobedience by refusing to participate in the program. Since there are fines and criminal penalties, the matter will enter the court system where eventually the Supreme Court, should there still be a 5-4 conservative majority, will overturn the law on the grounds that Congress does not have the constitutional power to mandate that individuals buy insurance.
Yes, I will.
I don't see any other choice but to fight. I have never, in my long life, feared my government until now.
The thing that honks me off the most is that too many people, almost 50% of the 1040 filers, pay the Feds nothing. Of course they want others to pay their health fees. I suggest those non-payers stop paying H&R Block to make out their forms and just send that amount to the IRS. At least they would then pay something.
Yes, I will fight. Any ideas welcomed.
Both my husband and I are p!$$ed off right now. The Democrat-Socialists (because that's what they are) passed this bill in the middle of the night, while the people are having fun on the weekend. Most people are going to find out... today.
My family and I have a perfectly fine health insurance. Currently, I'm under treatment for a hip and muscle injury. If this health insurance is taken away from us, I don't think things would be the same. There are plenty of doctors here in TX, and many more have arrived over the years because of tort reform. With this sickening law-to-be, I just might watch my doctors leave the country or just plain leave medicine altogether.
I'd rather go to jail than consent to this abomination. I'm sure I'm not alone in this.
You could be wrong...
You could be right.
If this passes the Senate it is probably time to start looking for some remote property in the Rockies.
"Anger is an energy" song by John Lydon (formerly known as Johnny Rotten) performed by his band Public Image. It's a great song and is sooo true.
It is going to be time for massive civil disobedience, even to the point that their interment camps cannot hold everyone. This is what they have been preparing those camps for, but we need to overwhelm them, and simply refuse to be cowed into submission. This is OUR COUNTRY, not theirs. It is time we take it back.
As some of you may already know, I have begun to create a series of "magazines" centered around men's issues, the first issue of which was entitled "The Counter Feminist Issue". The second issue is being (slowly) put together right now, the theme of which is Marriage, Divorce, and Child Custody.
The purpose of this magazine is NOT commercial, but rather a quick and easy resource to point to when questioned about our issues. The sheer enormity of what faces us is working against us, and while the web is an excellent resource, it doesn't take the place of a quick, prepackaged (no searching) magazine.
With this in mind, I am putting out a call to anyone who fancies taking a crack at tackling some of these issues in an article. Anything from the prospect of marriage to the average guy, through Family Court injustice, through child custody hell, including false assignation of paternity...hell, there's a whole book in those subjects alone..
The point is, I want issue- and solution-driven articles, that outline clearly the actual mechanics of the process. I hope to show through the entirelty of the magazine that all these "punishments" that many women seem to be OK with men suffering are seriously going to affect them, and it doesn't matter if they're "like that" or not. I want to show the injustice, and the effects of such.
I have been asked if this is an ego thing, the answer is no. Is this a commercial thing? Hopefully, but right now it serves a purely informational purpose. Also, I am not asking for new work, just anything you may have that's germaine, or anything you know of that struck you as a good article.
If you would be so kind as to email these links and articles to my Gmail account, mrm.magazine (a) gmail.com
This is not to be a feminist bashing magazine (fun as that is), I want to keep it purpose driven, but the odd crack is no big deal. :)
I know this is "spam", but I'm hoping given the cause that it'll be ok to post...
On the doomers, my take is that, just like immediately before the last election, we had a lot of trolls telling everyone to "show" the Republican party by not voting.
My belief is many of them are shills preaching doom to try to convince everyone not to be mad.
Be mad.
Now What?
Really, what exactly can one do? I am vehemently against this "healthcare" bill -- other than griping, what can I do?
Did showing up at tea parties work? I did that two months ago. It seems that the evil Dems just waited until the furor spent itself, and then they quietly did exactly what they planned to do all along.
What can we DO now?
I vote. That seems so ineffective. I wrote my congressman (John Cornyn, TX) -- but he's not voting for this bill.
What else can I do?
To the Senate we go.
PelosiCare the job killer will be stopped.
DrHelen,
Thanks! I guess that's just what we (I) needed to hear! You're right! As long as we have breath keep up the fight and take it to them!

Anger can be wonderfully energizing. It can get you moving, and once you calm down from the initial adrenaline hit, it can get you thinking about the most effective way to fight this battle.
Accurate information is a good disinfectant. How many of us know what is in the bill? Or in the several hundred pages they added at the last minute?
Do you think the difficulty in attempting to understand this legislation is part of their strategy? Is it working?
How many of us know what is wrong with the present system and what would be some good ways to correct it?
We need first to inform ourselves and second to make a concerted plan of counter-attack. We don't need money, just the energy of anger and the wisdom of information.
A good place to start on information is here:
John Goodman's Health Policy Blog.
This is the man who gave us the idea of Health Savings Accounts.
Here is a pdf of his plan, which is simple, elegant, aims to fix what is broken (and some of it is in need of repair) whilst keeping the government footprint as small as it should be:
Health Plan.
Knowledge is our best hope. Ignorance will permit the socialists do their perp walk all over us.
It was also no accident that this evil mess was shoved under the door on a Saturday night. These are thieves who come under the cover of darkness. They claim to honor transparency while they actually rule with as much opacity as possible.
Let us take up the arms of knowledge, beat the drums of truth, hammer on the locked doors of our public servants until they have no choice but to answer.
The country is ours if we're willing to do the work to take it back.
Inform yourself!
I will be fighting back against a culture that leads to less individual autonomy in every way I know how. Will you?
Oh, I suspect you'll start to get a bit squeamish when you realize that fighting for "individual autonomy' includes equal rights for gays, no special economic privileges for the middle and upper classes, and no affirmative action for whatever special group you think is being victimized at the moment.
Face it helen: you're a lover (and wife), not a fighter. Sounds cute to talk tough though, in your pretty pink (red?) pajamas.
Hint: if you are really serious about your cause here, try not alienating others who share the goal, but not the rest of the personal opinions you share here on this blog.
But of course, it's not really about any cause or issue. It's about page hits, baby. And tomorrow another cause will come for you and the crew to focus yourselves on.
Imagine how you'd fight though, if you could isolate an issue or two that really mattered, and went after that full bore. All the petty stuff would drop away, presumably, and you could focus tunnel vision on achieving the one cause you feel so passionately about.
"Did showing up at tea parties work? I did that two months ago. It seems that the evil Dems just waited until the furor spent itself, and then they quietly did exactly what they planned to do all along.

What you were supposed to get from the Tea Parties you attended to?
A sense that you were not alone.
Contacts.
Answering the call to action.
For instance, you went to a Tea Party and now you have no idea what to do next. Instead of waiting to be led, you realize that your area had no leaders and no organisation.
Then you sit down and plan an organisation and learn to lead it.
Also, I think Mary made a point in a roundabout way. Glen puts out a lot of independent ideas that I mentally attribute to Dr. Helen by association.
