Thank you, Joe Wilson
When I woke up this morning and read the Drudge headline linking to a story that Republican Congressman Joe Wilson called Obama a liar, my only thought was "it's about time." It's about time that Republicans play by the only rule book that works--that of Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals that asks the question, "Does this particular end justify this particular means?" The answer in the case of Joe Wilson's truthful expose of Obama is "yes."
Republicans cannot get heard, the public is being lied to or ambushed about Obama's health care plan and the only thing that matters is that it not pass. Period. End of discussion. The MSM does not cover Republicans except in a negative light, Republicans are not even included in health care talks at the White House and they have nothing to lose as they are already in the minority. Shouting out during the President's speech forces the issue. It forces the MSM to cover it, just as bloggers and talk radio exposing Van Jones and his subsequent resignation forced the MSM to cover that story. Of course, the MSM will cover the Wilson story in a negative light, but in the back of many citizen's minds, they will wonder, "is Obama lying, is there some truth to what Wilson said?" At least someone is bringing this possibility to light.
Those of us who do not toe the liberal line must stand up--just like Mr. Wilson. We are all radicals now.

Well, he's apologized for the outburst, so it's lost any "standing up to the left" value, if it ever had any.
At this point it's the democrats who are saying "Thank you, Joe": http://www.actblue.com/entity/fundraisers/19079
The republicans are usually pretty good about organizing the troops and getting everyone moving in a focused direction. Someone lost hold of Joe's leash and he bit the neighbor. Maybe the apology will work, but I think it's likely someones going to have to tell the kids that Joe went to live on a farm in the country.
HMT,
His act will inspire others to stand up. I don't think he should have apologized--I sure wouldn't have. He has nothing to apologize for. He spoke the truth when no one else would say it.
It was Obama who called people liars first. Wilson was just defending himself by saying in effect "No, YOU are lying"
I don't think he should have apologized either. I think it was a bad play on his part, either ill thought out or a completely emotional outburst. Neither is a good recipe for battle. But once the gauntlet was thrown he should have stood by it. The democrats are using it as a rallying point (which they need because they are so bad at doing anything together). The republicans COULD have used it similarly but his apology is going to take too much air out of it.
So in the end you have a poorly executed attack with bad follow through that only serves to energize your opponent.
Right media is trying to make the best of it but I don't think there's much that can be done with the failed maneuver.
HMT.
Thanks for clarifying your point. Now, I understand and agree that apologizing just gives the impression of not meaning it or being weak.
His apology only makes me wonder what sort of threats he received...
To me, the uproar over Obama's fairly-innocuous-as-it-turns-out school speech showed me something. With a vast number of Americans, Obama has squandered whatever trust he may have had. He's the boy who cried wolf, on steroids.
I agree. Wilson was just pointing out the fact that at least half of Obama's speech was pure lies. And I'm sure it was hard to contain himself, as it was for me. I can't watch Obama anymore, but I read his points. Lies, Lies, Lies. What kind of President do we have?
I don't listen to Obama. I quit during the early stages of the campaign. I read what he says after the fact.
Joe Wilson will become the new Joe the Plumber, only he will be attacked from ALL sides.
If we throw the rest of the bums out, like we all know BEYOND ANY SHADOW OF A DOUBT, must be done, then he will be the senior member in the house. How cool is that?
By the way, and as one might expect, you can't get anywhere near Joe Wilson's web site. It is swamped.
It's numero uno on Google for most searched name at the moment.
Go Joe!
Helen, it's nice that you're so enamored with a neo-Confederate.
What he did was a terrible bad manners before the President addressing the congress. This was not a Town Hall Meeting. That he was way out of line clearly shown by both his apology soon after and the rebuke from fellow Republicans.
fact: as many have noted: it was Wilson and not Obama that was the liar.
Joe Wilson told the truth when he pointed out Obama was lying. What about the boorish behavior of the Democrats when they booed Bush during the 2005 State of the Union address for telling the truth about Social Security?
If you really thought you could not be heard, it must have been because Joe Wilson was locked in a Free Speech Zone.
And as it turns out, Americans are not wondering if Joe is right, they've donated over $150,000 in the day to help his 2010 Democratic opponent.
And be honest, how many people here, if Bush were president and a Congressman shouted at him mid-speech, would claim that Democrats don't respect the office or something similar?
Hey TS, its nice that you're so enamored with a racist pedophile.
See, Alinksy works for anyone. Enjoy the months to come.
fred: "it was Wilson and not Obama that was the liar."
it was Fred lying about Wilson being the liar.
Brian: "And be honest, how many people here, if Bush were president and a Congressman shouted at him mid-speech"
You first Brian: be honest, how many Democrats have hissed and booed Bushmid-speech? Its hypocritical to get all self-righteous about it now.
Didn't somewhere the liberals create a doll of Sarah Palin and burn it at a stake? That was childish & pathetic. And you want respect.....please.
Wilson was lying about what? I'm sure Helen would not appreciate me taking up the space to list all of Obama's lies of omission, these are facts, not pulled out of the air guesses.
Fen, any congressman, regardless of party, who shouts things like "you liar" or "shut up" or anything else should lose their position. If you can't even carry on a civil conversation at your job, you don't deserve it.
That being said, I can't find a single congressman shouting over Bush's speech, just the usual grumbling that goes on both sides of the aisle. However, Fen, I'll gladly accept any proof you have that congressmen (Democrat or Republican) have shouted over Bush's speech.
Back to the actual matter at hand, I'm surprised I can't find any conversation here about the actual statement and whether or not it is true. From my reading, specifically page 143, it seems to state: Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States.
It looks like there will be no healthcare for illegal immigrants. Can someone point out to me where it does say that illegal immigrants would be covered?
And I just checked the poll numbers, CNN is reporting that just over two thirds of viewers favor Obama's healthcare plans. Any references to Americans thinking otherwise must be referring to the minority that isn't in favor of Obama's plan, right?
I could go into exact detail about the immigrants healthcare, but have to leave now. Bottom line there is no way to enforce checking whether this particular person is a true citizen or not, that section was left blank.
CNN's poll was taken from 45% democrats & 15% republicans. And you wonder why the number is skewed?

Except when a Democrat President does it, right? Then, like Clinton's sexual abuse / discrimination / harassment of Democrat women, its somehow "different".
I'm weary of the Lefty gambit - spend x number of years devolving into the practices of personal destruction, and once they've gotten all the mileage they can get from it, and the other side picks up on the tactic and starts responding in kind, the Left declares its "no longer fair to do x".
But I'm certain you have a lengthy post calling Obama out for labeling those who have civil disagreements with his policies as "liars acting in bad faith". His remarks were the cause of Wilson's response in the first place. You're working it your fierce moral outrage as we speak, yes?
Else, "shut up and talk less" [Obama]. Because it will be obvious you don't really believe in the things you lecture us about.
[...]
Vicki: CNN's poll was taken from 45% democrats & 15% republicans. And you wonder why the number is skewed?
What I wonder is how someone like Brian, who obviously has the intelligence to string two senteces together, would swallow anything CNN has to say.
Brian, what does it say about "support" for ObamaCare that CNN needs to run such a dishonest poll to prop it up?
Brian: It looks like there will be no healthcare for illegal immigrants. Can someone point out to me where it does say that illegal immigrants would be covered?
Brian, lets assume you are intellectually honet and asking in good faith, not merely spreading more Obama lies and partisan propaganda...
IF there is no verification to prevent illegals from using ObamaCare, then illegals will be covered.
I'll offer you the same bet I offered our President: in the years to come, for every illegal that ends up being covered by ObamaCare, you give me $100.
Do you feel secure enough in your knowledge to accept that bet?
JOHN ROBERTS (CBS White House correspondent): At a couple points in this address, it looked more like the British Parliament than the United States Congress. I’ve never heard the minority party shout at the president during the State of the Union address. [CBS, post-speech coverage, 2/2/05]
TED KOPPEL (ABC host): When the president talked about the bankruptcy of Social Security, there were clearly some Democrats on the floor who thought that that was taking it too far. And they did something that, apparently, no one at this table has ever heard before. They booed. [ABC, Nightline, 2/2/05
JOE WATKINS (radio host and CNN substitute host): Did you hear it? Certainly not the polite protocol usually practiced when a president speaks to Congress. If a Democrat one day delivers a State of the Union address, I hope the Republicans won’t lower themselves to such a disrespectful level. I hope last night’s behavior by a few lawmakers doesn’t set a new precedent, that both parties can agree to remain civil, even when voicing disagreements.[...] PAUL BEGALA (CNN host): Let me correct your history — 1993, I was with President Bill Clinton in that House chamber when he addressed a joint session of Congress. And Republicans heckled him when he cited Congressional Budget Office statistics about the deficit.
There Brian.
Now quit trying to shut up people who don't act the way you think they should. If a President is blatantly lieing, it needs to be pointed out. To his face. None of those clowns up there in DC are our betters. They are our employees. Their "Civility" crap is pure hypocracy. They call every opponent a racist Nazi who hates the poor. Fuck them and to hell with those who stick up for "civility" for them. They lost that priviledge years ago. Im of the same mind as Bill Buckley; Call me a Nazi and I'll sock you in the face. No more crap
Bravo Doc!

Well, of course Obama was lying. The man does not have a truthful bone in his body. Every time he opens his mouth, he lies. It is just the way he talks. It is his natural form of speech. He could not tell the truth if he urgently wanted to do so. Don't EVER believe a word the man says, EVER.
Let me try to remember what I told the staffer when I called his office today:
After eight years of being told to speak truth to power, when presented with the opportunity he folded like a little wimp, and I am very disappointed in the Congressman.
No apology for the truth, ever. No talking about bad things someone has done because you don't want to speak ill of the dead. No quarter where none is deserved.
Referencing the dead, this is Ted Kennedy. I got sick of people saying that didn't want to speak ill of the dead. That's like ignoring Stalin's Gulag because he's dead, or the Armenian Genocide because Ataturk is dead.
I wonder how much Joe raised in campaign cash today?
I tried to go to his congressional site to donate money, but it's down right now. Thank God someone in the GOP has grown a set and challenged the Obamessiah to his face.
Brian,

Check that link. Employers can't check documents used when hiring. So if an illegal has a counterfeit social security card, green card, etc., they WILL be able to get healthcare, as they will be able to opt in to the 'public option'.

TS, my vote will neutralize yours. That's good enough for me.
I used to think statements like this were born of ignorance, which stemmed from a lack of education. Unless you are lying about your own credentials, I've been proven wrong. I'm astounded that someone presumably intelligent condones this behavior. It's immature, it's combative, and it's disgusting. The fact that a few days later you hosted a discussion about Borderline Personality Disorder is a joke. (By the way, your references to "antisocial label" are ignorant as well. It's Antisocial Perosonality Disorder, in DSM right along with BPD. Do a litte research and choose your words carefully, doctor.
Also, you might want to check out factcheck.org, a non-partisan website dedicated to telling the truth, no matter the party. Your claims about Obama and his speech, are baseless. You, along with 99% of other Republicans must get your information from Glenn Beck and FOXnews. Shame on you, doctor.
http://www.factcheck.org/2009/09/obamas-health-care-speech/
To put into the bill the words that illegal aliens will not be covered while having soundly defeated several amendments that would have provided enforcement of that provision shows just how empty the provision is. Words in the bill with no enforcement provision mean exactly nothing and we all know that. We particularly know that when an attempt has been made to add enforcement language and that attempt has been soundly defeated. This is a loud, clear statement that the primary language of the bill is window dressing only, nothing more. Thus, "You lie" is entirely correct.
babymama, 99% of other republicans must get their information from Fox news.... I'll have you know that Richard Wright says 82.7% of statistical facts are made up on the spot.
factcheck.org is non-partisan? You wouldn't know it by the ads. I will have to go to snopes to check that statement out.
Anyone want to make a bet on the possibility that by the time this bill would become law of the land that amnesty will have passed, and there will no longer be any illegal aliens?
How long were the individual components of the "stimulus bill" tucked away in various desks around D.C., waiting for the right time to pull them out and pile them together?
Wilson said the same thing that I tend to shout at the TV set in the privacy of my own home (if I dare turn it on to watch something so unpleasant). Except, because of my upbringing I tend to see my shouting as rude, so I would not do it in public. I think the left systematically takes every advantage of this tendency people have to be polite.
So, even though a part of me thinks Wilson's remark was fully justified, I am naturally uncomfortable with what I have been conditioned to see as rudeness.
This may mean that I'm one of those people who can't stand the heat and should get out of the kitchen, but where do I go?
Re FactCheck, they've been debunked. Just one example: they claimed Obama doesn't support something that a simple Lexis-Nexis search would have turned up quotes for.
Its silly to believe that just because a site calls itself "fact check" and "non-partisan" that its the final arbiter of truth. Or even credible.
