I have learned to pay a lot less attention to book rankings when I discovered how conservative organizations spent lots of money buying up copies to promote their cause and in the process drive up ratings. If so many "readers" of the book are out there, then why does the conservative cause seem more and more in a losing position in every single poll taken in the past few months?
Meanwhile the drumbeat for "torture" and "truth" commissions is kept up by the MSM and the left-tard blogs. Once the Gitmo/Abu Graihib photos are released expect an unprecedented media shitstorm, with 24/7 drumbeat for prosecute Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld...
There's a resistance going on as well, but clearly trends are bad. With Specter's defection + Franken winning the lawsuit in MN, the democrats will have a filibuster proof majority, and we will have true one party rule.
Trends are always temporary. People rending their garments and pouring ashes on their heads need to knock it off. This is an excellent time for people that adhere to conservative principles to rethink and rearm themselves with new approaches to bedrock conservative ideas. Nothing benefits a political philosophy like being out of power for awhile and having to take stock and go through a winnowing process. Embrace it and coming out stronger and with some fire in your belly. Epictetus said it best. "Difficulties show men for what they are. God has given you a rough antagonist so that you may be a conqueror, and this cannot be without toil." This is were the real work begins.
Aurelian - conservatism is dying. People are rationally abandoning those principles which are mainly based off Christianity. Who needs sexual morality when there's birth control methods and abortion on demand? Let's face it, there is no political future for the social cons. Fiscal conservatism is likewise, in dire straits. People do not really care for small government, they want services.
Alex get a grip. Conservatism is not dying but is going to enjoy a resergence. People will find out the hard way but will find out the the cost of "services" is not going to be so much money but the freedoms you enjoy and were paid for by the blood of others. Government will control who gets it and how much and, from previous examples, we know that just does not work. It will also come with increasing governmental control of your lives. We will find a very fertile field for the planting of conservative ideas and philosophy. You betray your lack of understaning of conservatism when you say that conservatism is based off of Christianity. You may want to rethink that.

You seem to be confusing Mark Levin with Glenn Greenwald.
alex, you need to elaborate a little on your thoughts, please (your last post above). With no morals, sexual or otherwise, and no fiscal conservatism (fiscal responsibility) at all, how would you expect society to survive?

"Precedent" is among the most feared of concepts to politicians and lawyers (and other hypocrites).
This would most likely be the worst of precedence. Following the banana repblic model of trying the previous administration for their actions in office. It would soon be a short path from "crimes" that the previous administration supposedly committed to prosecuting for "decisions I don't like".

Were I asked what the GOP should do to enable a resurgence and re-invigoration, I would state (1) get the hell away from the religious right, and (2) do anything to shed the taint of FoxNews. Those two influences are like cancer to the GOP, in my view. The religious right is a pack of screeching lunatics, and ditto for FoxNews.

I am not talking about the GOP I am talking about conservatives. One may be a Democrat and a conservative. I fail to see the obsession liberal have with the "Religious Right" and Fox News. The Religious Right has not had power for years and Fox News is no worse than MSNBC. I remember when the religious right had real power. Unless liberals do not like anyone holding an opinion that there are some behaviors that, by and large do not lead to the best outcomes. I entirely think this is the case. In which case liberals will just have to deal with it. I think your concerns are eiether misplaced or red herrings.
We will have big government and services and high taxes and less freedom because of the sexual revolution. When sex any time, any place, any person, any reason is a fundamental human right, then all that contraception and abortion and STD/HIV treatment and care and family courts and child support and welfare have to be paid for. Since people only legally have rights and not responsibilities, they can't be expected to foot the bill for their own bad choices. We all get the privilege of paying and sacrificing for everyone's freedom. I get to pay for everyone else's sex lives and I don't even get drinks and dinner out of it. LOL
