“We know how to change behavior and attitudes. That is what we do,”
You know, in 17 years in the business of therapy I have never changed a single person's behavior or attitude. Zero.
I have helped hundreds and hundreds of people be happier and figure stuff out, but I have not changed anyone or told any of them what they should think. It would take more narcissism than I can muster to think that I could tell someone else how to live.
I am not sure what these controling jerks are peddling, maybe brain washing, maybe manipulation, you could even call it lying, but it is not psychology in any true sense of the word.

Successful salesmen are able to do that just a tiny bit. Maybe marketing people can be included in that.
Psychologists (specifically the puffed-up brand that is making these statements here) are not quite as sharp in practice as their theory would suggest.
I wish someone could harness arrogance and long-windedness as an energy source - it would be more plentiful than even cold fusion could provide.
People who are down and dirty in the business of sales or marketing or political persuasion learn over time (at least the successful ones) how to be effective.
These APA dolts are probably not even practicing psychology on a regular basis, let alone areas that really know how to influence people.
Speaking of politically correct counseling a friend told me this morning that in California is some who has been living a straight life style sees a therapist and says I think I may be gay, the therapist legally has to support them in exploring their new sexuality.
But if someone who has been living a gay life style sees a therapist and says I want to become straight, the therapist can not help them.
As a side note, more and more often I'm finding my blog is an extension of my brain. I'll pull stuff out of my blog a couple times a week. Kind of fun to see others doing it.
Let us remember that the APA is also trying to normalize paedophilia.
They also support lots of other leftwing and collectivist idiocy that has nothing to do with psychology, like gun control as well as the modern eco-communist movement.

Sometimes, you have to look at the roots of words to understand their full meaning.
Take, for example, the word "politics" (poly ticks). "Poly" means many and "ticks" are blood-sucking parasites.
Now, let's look at "expert" (ex-spurt). An "ex" is a has-been and "spurt" is a drip under pressure.

Hilarious to read APA president Kazdin assert that we (psychologists) know how to change behavior and attitudes. " Thats what we do".
Who does this sphincter think he is?
Arrogant SOB if ever there was one.

what's the old saying....'an expert is someone who can't find a job in the real world'....
Not saying that is true in all cases, but it certainly seems to fit here.
It would be an interesting psychological study to determine why professional bodies like this are universally captured by the political left.
Henry Cate,
I have a post on that here:

Helen, thanks. That is it exactly.
