What about CrimeStopper-type hotlines to report dangerous foods and mandatory rehab for offenders who are caught overeating?

DRJ,

Wouldn't we all be in jail?--I am not going to tell you about my trip to Sonic yesterday....never mind.

Not me, I never overeat. Or maybe I do; since denial will certainly become prima facie proof that you have the problem.

How will the trans-fat thing be enforced anyway? It's not like you can look at something and tell it has trans-fat in it. Will city inspectors be taking samples to labs?

Exactly John. Except it will ultimately be applied to the people themselves, via a blood test or new insta-fatalyzer technology. Anyone refusing the test will be sent automatically to fat-hab.

The results and case histories will aslo be posted on a national registry of closet fat-gobblers, which will be used to rate life insurance, screen job applicants, license physicians, etc.

Politicians who make the laws will of course be exempt.

Tomcal, you forgot the almost certain tax penalty, since once you've embraced socialized medicine supported by taxes, you have plausible (but by no means legitimate) argument for coercing healthy living and penalizing the egregious act of increasing the burden on the collective.

Dr. Helen,

I bet there were would be a lot more people buying take-out and, if questioned, everyone would claim to have bigger families and frequent company for meals.

I wonder what the expense will be in
the shipping, handling, and storage of fats that are NOT hydrogenated to keep them liquid at/or below room temprature.

Can the existing trans fat supplies/futures be used as fuel for the extra heat required?

Can I sue any "large city" Mayor for banning the most effective reclaimed biofuel for my VW bus?

Is there a concern akin to subliminal advertising
that the trail of french fry scented exaust (for which, if done properly, there is NO defense Danial-san!) will lure a transfer of disposable metropolitan-tourist income away from suppliers of "impulse/therapy-buy junk" shopping emporiums to the altars of fast food emporiums?

Is Exxon at war against Archer Daniels
to be the default calorie supplier of the masses?

Wonder how this is going to affect the
existing disposal/waste treatment infastructure profit margin.

If nothing else, this will certainly put a damper on all those wild Crisco parties between 14th st. and the Battery.

Send your sandwich to school!

Sorry, that's the thought that popped into my head. Probably a form of Tourette's Syndrome.
