Valentine: a Christian who violated the Emperor's restriction on married soldier by performing marriages for soldiers. Since he was a Roman citizen, he could not be hung from the Tree of Woe or sent into the arena.
Working late, unfortunately . . . parent-teacher conferences, on an evening when I frankly question how many parents will show up. But I did send roses. Yes, I hear a lot about how the holiday is nonsense, and yes, I realize people are marketing those flowers to me. But knowing that, I still take pleasure in sending them, and I know she takes pleasure in receiving them . . . . so I didn't deny myself the pleasure of sending flowers to my wife for the pleasure of spiting some marketing guy who's probably dead by now. ;)
I got my present over the weekend; it was pink and pretty and just right.
Here is the woman who claims to have had the MGTOW forum taken down.
I added the comment below. But are any WOMEN going to comment on this blatant attempt by women to suppress freedom of speech? Are any women going to take this bitch to the carpet? I won't be holding my breath. And will this bitch publish my comment? I won't be holding my breath on that one either.
"If you do not believe in freedom of speech for those you despise you do not believe in it at all." Voltaire.
So. I see you don't believe in freedom of speech.
You know. I tell all the young men I meet western women are liars and hypocrites now. I tell them that they should never marry and never have children with a western women. Women like you just add more evidence for the young men. Your claim has created quite a stir in the MRA area. Thank you for demonstrating once more how pathetic western women are.
I went to a local chocolate shop and got my wife some killer sweets. She shared one of them with me, but they are for her.
We got a little something for the kids, told them we love them. Wife got for me a bottle of Maker's Mark 46. What a wife!
Today we will exchange cards and hug and tell each other how glad we are that God gave us to each other, how much we love each other, and how we could not imagine our life without the other.
Plus, what Darth Aggie said. This is the anniversary St. Valentine's martyrdom circa 270 AD at the orders of Emperor Claudius II. St. Valentine was beaten, stoned, then beheaded. Not exactly Hallmark material.
I do have something in mind for this evening, with my new girlfriend(!), but I don't know if it'll be this dramatic -- "This Valentine's Day, Woman Gives Kidney to Fiance", ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) Feb 14, 12:43 PM EST
last night i bought a rose, a few different sorts of valentine`s candy and a card and put them on the front seat of my wife`s car.
she found those when she got in this morning.
she came rushing back in the house to thank me and was subsequently late for work...though i have a feeling they understood.
in the 15 years of my last marriage i learned to despise feb. 14th with a passion, and my new wife told me she understood my feelings and how i arrived at them, but she then said that a simple rose would make her happy...and how could i refuse?
I have received one text message from a good female friend, and an e-mail and lunch time phone call from another. So it's Valentine's day and I don't have to cook for myself tonight. All I have to decide is what I'd rather eat from the given choices. As it should be.
fredsbreakfast: Well, maybe that is true in your particular situation. I don't think there has to be a dominant sex in a given relationship. I might dominate in certain aspects of our relationship and my wife in others.
fred, Camille's quote refers to male and female mammilian reproductive strategies. The male relies on broadcasting by attempting to impregnate as many females as possible.
The female relies on selectivity by choosing to mate with only the most vigorous specimens.
The strategies are mostly complementary in our mammilian friends, and stating that the strategies confer more importance or worth upon the two sexes seems the height of fancy.
Going against the grain here, but I like it. It's easy to get caught up in the day-to-day grind of making a living, doing laundry, shoveling snow (man, did I do a lot of THAT this winter), etc etc ad nauseum. It's easy to forget just how special your special someone is (this from someone who tells his wife/best friend/soul mate multiple times a day that he loves her). Valentine's Day is as good an excuse as any to do something a little extra special. It doesn't need to be much, me-to-her was a box of candy and a couple cards, her to me was a chocolate heart, a gift card to Applebees, a home-made crossword puzzle of terms significant to no one but us, and a couple cards.
Dinner in from our favorite BBQ joint, exchanged cards with notes inside, gave my wife her favorite chocolate, watching TV in bed. Just what we wanted.
Had other things going on due to a newly totalled vehicle, but managed a lunch (late) at Red Lobster with my wife and valentine, followed by a movie, "Just Go With It". Movie was hilarious.
Followed by a nap before heading off for another midnight shift at work.
Always try to do something special on holidays and anniverseries.
My wife and I teach high school at the same charter school. Due to scheduling conflicts I have to use her room at the end of the day. This time period is also her prep/planning period and she is usually working at her desk as I teach. I teach high school Spanish and I'm Hispanic - she is not. Anyway, part of learning Spanish is also learning about the culture in different spanish speaking countries. I have talked to the kids about some older customs such as serenading. We have also been talking about music and have an instructor coming to give a salsa lesson. Toward the end of the period, I had the front groups clear a space while I talked about serenading, dancing etc. in the Hispanic culture. I had a song ready on the computer and as the music began I said that since it was Valentine's Day it would be best if I demonstrated serenading. I called my wife to join me at the front of the room. The song I chose was "Sabor a mi." I serenaded the Mrs. while I danced with her. I then gave her a small potted rose. Needless to say the girls went nuts. These are sophomore girls. One exclaimed to me as they were being dismissed, "When I get married, I want to marry a guy like you." We drive separate vehicles because my day is one period shorter (not quite full time). I was home when she called to say that she was on her way. She wanted to know if I was naked. The next day the girls were still talking about the serendading and dancing. Girls in my earlier classes wanted to hear all the details about it.

The latter
No girlfriend/wife/S.O., so no plans. Some of the latter too, but it's a moot point as far as I'm concerned.
Valentine: a Christian who violated the Emperor's restriction on married soldier by performing marriages for soldiers. Since he was a Roman citizen, he could not be hung from the Tree of Woe or sent into the arena.
Instead, he was beheaded.
Yes, so very romantic.
Again no wife, girlfriend, S.O., cat, dog, etc; as such I usually don't take much notice of International Singles Awareness Day unless I'm working.
Since I'm not working, this is likely my only reference to Lupercalia this year.
And thanks to my younger half-sister for the above Valentines renaming.

Now back to our discussion.
I've never celebrated holidays much, or birthdays. My attitude has always been pleasant and unexpected is better. To and fro.
Partly because it makes it easier to not have to track specific days and partly because I find 'assigned' celebrations rather forced.
On February 15 I'll be shopping early for quality chocolates.
I have always hated this "holiday", but I am compelled to do something because my daughter goes to school where it is a big deal.
Home schooling never looked so good.
I went to a local chocolate shop and got my wife some killer sweets. She shared one of them with me, but they are for her.

The latter, definitely.

What's the official position on polyandry in the Mink household? :-D
Hallmark/Hershey holiday. Pass.

Woman Gives Kidney to Fiance
Which he promptly consumed with some fava beans and nice Chianti.

I saw this at Huff-Po: "Let's have a fiscally but not sexually conservative Valentine's Day".

Well, the ployandry is out, but pouring a wee dram, or several, for a friend is always on tap!

Woman is the dominant sex. Men have to do all sorts of stuff to prove that they are worthy of woman's attention. ~ Camille Paglia
We went out for dinner last night as we both have commitments tonight. We'll do cards, etc. when she gets home from work.
I don't like the commercialization, but I do think it is good to have times to remind you to be grateful for the one that you love and who loves you.
Of course, if that doesn't describe your relationship, you might not appreciate the reminder :-)

I didn't have plans today for anything other than work. But I did take the time to write a poem and email it to a beloved one.
Valentine cards are shaped like hearts
This one's shaped like a soul
Hearts are organs for pumping blood
Something else makes us whole
Love exists not where hearts shall meet
But where souls intertwine
And every day is a new day
Happy day, Valentine
I took my bassett hound for a walk. He enjoyed it.
Dinner in from our favorite BBQ joint, exchanged cards with notes inside, gave my wife her favorite chocolate, watching TV in bed. Just what we wanted.
I did some painting on the new siding on my house, put a couple of coats of primer on the front of a kitchen drawer, and worked on my taxes.

I'll drink to that!
