I was just reading about Black Friday on CNBC and it seems that many people have less interest in shopping that day:
I was never a big fan of Black Friday and can't imagine fighting crowds to get a few gifts. I've already done most of my shopping online. What about you?
A survey by Persuadable Research for online shopping guide dealnews.com, however, found just 46 percent of respondents plan to “definitely” shop on Black Friday this year, a 12 percent drop from those who took to the stores in 2008....
The survey by Persuadable Research found a majority of shoppers (59 percent) say they would rather shop online for Black Friday deals this year than fight the crowds.

I haven't yet, but I will do nearly all my Christmas shopping online.
In don't recall ever shopping that day, though if I did it was when I was in my early twenties.
My wife and I have purchased almost all of our kid's presents online, the last package came two weeks ago. We have more to do, all online purchases, but we also have to play a shopping game with my Mom who freaks out over the titles of things--thus we can't have her get "Left for Dead 2" for Son #2, but instead have to find the video games with innocuous titles (and yes, it gets very funny what she ends up buying while being utterly oblivious to the content.)
Either Target or Wal-Mart, I can't remember which, is going to have coffee makers and toasters for $3 a piece. Although that is very exciting I already own one of each. So I think I'll stay home.
I would like a new computer but the one I want is $1,500 so I am going to wait a bit. The new camera I want will be over $1K. This isn't the stuff you find on the bargain rack.
Never shopped that day, except for something I needed for that weekend.
I do my shopping online too and stay out of the rat race.
Say helen,
how come you're moderating comments on some threads? That's pretty lame.
Since chuck called me out on a lower thread, I'd like to respond. Or do you let some people take pot shots while you tie other people's hands behind their heads (by selectively monitoring your comments)?
Are you afraid of what honesty brings in comment threads like this (ie/ the one that said most guys are not into shopping and don't get particularly jealous of the dog's crap? Did that hit a bit close to home, seeing as though your husband is a big product consuming fellow and all? Doesn't make him any less manly, just less independent -- owned by his things, rather than him owning them and all)
Assuming that they have a decent sample, 46% of all shoppers going out on the same day is still a LOT of people shopping. Way too many for me to be around. The whole argument is silly anyway. They are inferring that any sales not made on that day are lost forever. Nonsense.
I'll do the same thing I do every other black friday, stay home.
Mary,
It seems that you are the one taking "pot shots." I have posts older than one week on moderation because they fill up with Chinese spam if I don't. I get a number of comments to older posts and just haven't had time to approve them yet but I will.
Chinese spam? Ugh! The American stuff in the can is bad, I wonder if the Chinese would be better or worse?!?
I always save some shopping for right before Christmas. I love to go out in the hustle and bustle for an hour to find a stocking stuffer. Usually I am not so comfortable in crowds, but this is a once a year ritual that really gets me in the Christmas spirit.

RE: Heck....
....if it isn't gasoline, fresh produce and meat, or toilet paper, I can't get it where I live.
When I go looking for something like a programmable bluetooth mouse, I can't find it. And yet, the local Office Depot store has several banks of one particular wireless mouse. No ROOM for another product. I.e., no 'diversity' of product availability.
So, 95% of all my purchases over the last month have been ON-LINE!
And my community government wonders why their sales tax revenues have been slipping.....

Chuck(le)
P.S. I've already done the bulk of my Christmas shopping....on-line. And I'll be doing my youngest daughter's college graduation shopping on-line as well....except for a commissioned piece of jewelry....
P.P.S. The solution to the programmable bluetooth mouse turned out to be an app for the iPod Touch (2G)....
....Air Mobile Mouse.

Lol.
Define "pot shot" in your words.
I suspect we live in different worlds. Thing is... you let stand the comment that totally misrepresented what I had said upthread.
If somebody's rude, you address it directly. But your rude commenter insinuated I would sit there and take it... and then you put the comments on moderated, and would not let me respond.
Cheap tactics, helen.

Hi Chuck,
You talking to me, dear?
The good lady can surely speak for herself. Why don't you let her?
Now please stop being rude and just sit there and fiddle with yourself, k?
Good boy!
ps. Don't be expecting me to show up at your place any time soon, but thanks for the invite. Surely one day you'll snare someone that way!

...quite contrary.

It's interesting that Mary whines to Dr. Helen about not being able to contest issues here.
But 'Mary' is totally unwilling to enter the proverbial tiger's lair.
In the Army, we refer to this as being 'gutless'.

P.S. I suspect it's because 'Mary' isn't interested in anything other than demonstrating their 'STRESS PUPPY'ness in the public venue.

What's the URL? I think I'll 'drop' by.
Every now and then I like to go 'slumming'.....
