I saw this article on Drudge this morning that one of these "creative ideas" is to tax plastic surgery. Thinking of all the ways to give away other people's money is "fun and creative" to Baucus? It reminds me of a study I read that showed how there are some people who enjoy giving away other people's money for the "fun" of doing it. It strikes me that the people in the current administration are no different.

I'm sure the first person who has to pay a tax on their reconstructive surgery after a bad accident will, while going through their physical therapy, reflect on how much fun paying a 10% tax on a $100K surgery bill is.
This will give rise to an industry in which psychologists/psychiatrists will declare plastic surgery medically necessary for the sake of the person's self-esteem thereby raising health care costs more because of the needed consultation to avoid the taxes.

Be assured though, that this won't be covered under Obama's healt plan. So people will still get hit with it.

Several years ago, Colorado voters passed an amendment to the state constitution called the Taxpayers Bill of Rights (TABOR), also known as Amendment One. Basically, TABOR restricts state, county and local governments from increasing revenue collection faster than the combined rate of inflation and population growth. If they collect more money, they have to ask the voters if they get to keep it. If they want to raise tax rates, voters must approve.
A year or so after TABOR passed, I saw a woman with a bumper sticker that read, "Life was more fun before Amendment One." I guess some people's idea of fun is being able to raise taxes on others at will to pay for their pet projects. I'm not sorry about spoiling her fun, though. If she wants to have fun, let her do it with her own money for a change.
You know, if every bill had to have a basis in individual liberty, this wouldn't happen. When politicians go to Washington believing that they are tasked with "solutions" instead of protecting freedom, we get nimrods like Baucus. (Way to go, Montana!)
i read a book recently on torture and execution throughout history and realised something.
as our society has "civilised" away from public hangings, inquisitions, pillorying, burnings, drawing and quartering, etc, we seem to be interested in more and more ways to take the essense of our flesh in the form of money.
the tax code is a form of torture we all have to endure each year in preparing our taxes, and for what?
the thrill of irs accountants, knowing that each submission contains the tears of agony?

TABOR got gutted in the last (Democrat dominated) election.
Because he is a fool, he belongs, rightfully, with the 7 GOP "birthers," though you won't badmouth themn because, well, they are not Democrats. Now if you do a spot of research, you will see he is (like your readers) against the Obama health initiative and in his juvenile way trying to have a bit of fun...but you take him at his word!
fred - I hope you're right about Baucus being against the Obama health initiative. I don't complain about the birthers because they're harmless. Like a 4 year old threatening to beat me up. You should be glad of their existence. It gives meaning to your life. I'll worry about the real threats.

No one serving in the Senate today has taken as much money from the Medical-Industrial Complex as Baucus ($2,865,881) other than notorious corporate whore Arlen Specter ($4,066,433) and two former presidential candidates, John Kerry ($8,163,141) and John McCain ($8,672,260). Baucus even tops Medical Industry shill Mitch McConnell ($2,755,468). And when it comes to the Financial Sector– the banksters, Big Insurance and Big Real Estate– Baucus was also on the payroll in a major way. His $4,675,393 in donations put him in the Top 10, with corporate whores like Mitch McConnell, Alexander Lamar, Arlen Specter, Joe Lieberman, Kay Bailey Hutchison, Chuck Schumer… basically the folks who oversaw the economic legislation that dragged the economy right over the cliff.

And none of them will settle for what they're trying to force on us, either. Congress is exempting themselves and you know the Obama family won't have to settle for the "public option."

But then, with Democrats sitting in the Governor's mansion for all except for eight of the last 35 years in CO, no one should be surprised that the Supreme Court there has approved any number of revenue generating schemes in recent years that most of us would call taxes, imposed without the required election.
