Two soldiers shot

I just saw this on Breitbart.com:

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Police in Little Rock, Ark., say a man who likely had "political and religious motives" shot two new Army soldiers, killing one, at a military recruiting center.

Police Chief Stuart Thomas identified the victim who died as 24-year-old William Long of Conway. He and the second soldier, both wearing fatigues, had recently completed basic training and volunteered to help attract others to the military.

The suspect pulled up a black vehicle outside the Army-Navy recruiting office in west Little Rock and fired shots about 10:30 a.m.

There is also a NYT's piece on the story here.

Well, at least the right-wing, anti-abortion extremist is now sharing the spotlight with what I'm going to guess is a left-wing, anti-military extremist.

J. Bowen,

I wonder if it was somehow a response to that killing?

I don't know how they would be connected unless someone has some bizarre connections in their head. I am sure if one wanted to connect the two there would be a much clearer choice somewhere. It is very sad for those poor boys.

You have to be kidding! That is too perfect. Now, that Muslim president has brought terrorism to American shores.

How much do you want to bet that that is going to be the argument that right-wingers make?

J. Bowen's remark is stupid. Just plain stupid. Obama is not a Muslim and has never been one. In fact, his hate mongers also lighted upon his Christian pastor ...is Obama both Muslim and Christian?

And quickly, how quickly, someone remarks that it must be someone from the left who is anti-military. In fact, if the article in the "dispised NY Times"says NO Motive known as yet, why tell us what it is, in your certainty?

Guards at the doors? Sure. There are guards at schools too...America is an armed camp and people get killed in all sorts of places. Why not post martials at the door?

[sarcasm]You have to be kidding! That is too perfect. Now, that Muslim president has brought terrorism to American shores.[/sarcasm]

Is that better? Do you honestly believe that anybody who frequents this blog actually believes that Obama is a Muslim or that anybody with a Muslim-sounding name who commits a crime is also a terrorist? Seriously.

Here's the process:

- Become inspired to say something;
- Engage brain;
- Say something.

The most important part of that process is the second step. Try to remember that.

By the way, let's cherry-pick some of the stupid right-wing-leaning comments that are already out there to support what I said:

codekeyguy over at www.haloscan.com;

This one from GunRunner over at www.hotair.com is great (though not particularly indicative of any right-wing sentiments);

So is this one;

And this one;

And this one;

And this one;

This one is pretty funny;

As jazz_piano notes, I and everyone else who suspected him to be a lefty was wrong...because he used an "assault" rifle;

This one doesn't have to do with Obama, but it is funny (in a cynical kind of way);

This site is turning out to be a little treasure trove of stupidity;

This guy actually thinks Obama will be celebrating this.

I could keep going if you like.

There will be absolutely no shortage of stupid people who are going to believe that Obama is responsible for what is essentially just another example of an individual choosing to engage in criminal behavior (those people are just a subset of the much larger set of stupid people known as Americans).

By the way, I don't watch television, so can someone please tell me what that comedian Bill O'Reilly is saying about all this?

Today we had one abortion doctor killed and one army recruiter. They made the headlines over at CNN. How many other people were murdered today? How many were killed by their spouse? How many were killed by a friend, acquaintance or someone they didn't even know? How many were killed with a gun, knife, asphyxiation or blunt force trauma?

Probably a lot.

fred does. His knee jerks so high when he hears The One's name that it struck him in the forehead, rendering him even more inchoate that is typical.

And I think you meant to say that some people are so dumb that they think that everyone with a Muslim sounding name who commits a crime is a terrorist. I am not carping JB, just offering a tiny clarification.

SO now we'll hear all about how the abortionist killer is absolutely representative of the pro-life movement, despite the rareness of murders committed by same.

But the Muslim assassin is not representative AT ALL of Muslims, nevermind the call to Jihad thingy and the "death to the Jews/wipe Israel off the map/kill the infidels if they don't convert" stuff. Nope just a one off, like 100o's of other similar acts committed over a 40 year history.

Cham, do you know how many "pro-life" murders there have been? Less than 20. Surprised?

Let's do some math. Recent polling identifies more than half of Americans identifying themselves as Pro-life. So I used barely more than half the US population, or 153 million. Dividing the 20 murders (I rounded up) by that number gave me a murder rate of 1.32 x 10 -7.

A small number indeed.

Then I took your number of 135 billion Muslims and multiplied that number by the Pro Life death rate and came up with 17,759. That means for the death rates to be equal, Muslim extremists could not kill more than 17,759 people.

I cannot find a quick stat on the worldwide Islamic terrorist death toll, but since they killed over 3,000 in the twin towers, I am betting that the Pro Life folks are far less deadly than Islamist terrorists.

Now most of us just knew that, but you can finish up the figures if you can find good numbers for how many they have murdered.

Why doesn't this blog allow blockquote? Continuing the discussion...

But the Muslim assassin is not representative AT ALL of MuslimsYes he is. He's doing what the Quran says to do. Killing infidel soldiers is no more a "corruption" or "misunderstanding" of Islam than beating your wife is (Quran 4:34). It's all sanctioned by Allah. Islam is not and never has been the Religion Of Peace, tens of millions of people have been slaughtered in its name, and are being slaughtered even as we speak.

The percentage of them that commit acts of terrorism is eensy beensy teeny tiny.Through zakat, nearly all of them fund it, and most condone it so long as Muslims aren't the targets. That only a few actually commit it is irrelevant. The accessory is just as culpable as the perpetrator.

Both of these individuals were inspired by a loathsome hate. Both follow some dumbass vitriolic movement, even in just their minds. Both committed murder. The stats Trey provided are pretty much correct(although I would correct for age). Both sides of this discussion are correct. I am in neither camp, but have and do know people in both. Good and decent people, because I tend to not hang with those under the dark clouds of conspiracy theory thought.

I think that is more the defining factor of the killers, their predilection towards beliefs in ominous conspiracy theory schools of thought where all others are 'enemy'.

"although I would correct for age"

Good point! I thought about it, but I did not know how to get a quick and dirty breakdown of the US population by age. Then I would have to do the same for the Muslim population, and the figures would be different, probably in favor of the Muslims as they have more kids.

But you are correct Olig, I just got lazy and pressed for time.

Cham, I've had the same thought as you. How many others were murdered? Here's three, a mother and her two children. Black I'm almost sure since I know the neighborhood.

Of course, liberals have been blaming white conservatives for black on black crime, black on white crime, white on black crime for decades. Virtually any violent crime is the fault of conservatives.

According to this CNN report, the man is a convertied Muslim who specifically targeted military personnel for political and religious reasons.

CNN is barely giving this any coverage. One line on CNN.com compared to their heavy coverage of St. Tiller.

That aside, yes, I do. I play cricket with a group of friends who happen to be Muslims at the high school football field near my house. I've also been to several Muslim countries and to areas of non-Muslim countries that have large Muslim populations. I have never had anything but good experiences with Muslims (they haven't even cut off my head for being an American atheist (while it may be hard to identify an atheist, it certainly isn't hard to identify an American)).

Ridiculous how?

This is how:

Through zakat, nearly all of them fund it, and most condone it so long as Muslims aren't the targets.

Is my reference to the traditional understanding of Quran 4:34 wrong?

It depends on who you ask. Here are 97 ways of translating the Quran. Who's to say which translation is correct (is it the same person who declares one particular translation of the Bible to be the correct translation)?

However, I would caution that if you really want to go that route, then I would simply be forced to cite passage after passage after passage after passage after passage after passage in the Old and New Testaments that clearly teach that women are not only inferior to men but that, according to many more passage, they are also sub-human; the cause of all of man's woes. Is that where you want to go?

By the way, watch this:

Through the US governments, nearly all Christians fund terrorism, and most condone it regardless of whether Christians are the target or not and almost especially if Muslims are the target.

See how easy I can make a completely ridiculous argument that you will be duty-bound to accept by virtue of your having made an equally-ridiculous argument?

By the way, before you even think about objecting, know that an eensy beensy teeny tiny bit [out of the huge number] of US government agents at various levels of government commit terrorist acts. Therefore, all of the Christians who support US governments support its terrorist ways. Bing, bang, boom.
