I was diagnosed ADHD at the age of 40, 16 years ago. After trying a couple different drugs, dexedrine did the best as far as "removing the veil" as it were.

For me, maybe for others, medication without any other understanding of "what gives" - even for an adult - is a disservice. So "educational therapy" is recommended from me, anyway. I read a few books on ADD / ADHD, with "Driven to Distraction" being the most helpful. There may be more up to date books now, I don't know.

Far and away the best thing was the diagnosis itself. I had no idea what the heck was going on before then, I just knew something was different. Being an air head who couldn't sit still was only fun when real young. I spent a lot of time and money "self medicating" as I grew up that slowed as I aged. After I found out what it was and started on dexedrine, I lost all appetite for anything illicit or containing alcohol.

I don't take any medications now either, haven't for 10 years. I have grown out of the "HD" part, but I am still maddeningly forgetful at times. There are some other "lingering effects" that remain as well. I have a lead foot on the interstate, for instance. At least I don't talk to much any more, or write in run on sentences, or write to long when posting, or think too much about something nobody else cares about and hyperfocus on it and stuff, you know?

Did I say that already?

Seriously, I recommend Healing ADHD by Daniel Amen regularly in my practice. We used to have theories about ADHD, now we have photographs of the brain. I am not in total agreement with everything the good doctor says, but he also reads and shares the research on diet and supplements, and that is RARE in the psychiatric community.

Well we're both Lowell George fans too. I suppose you play guitar also? 43 years here.

I'll look Amen up. Thanks! By the way, hyperfocus isn't all bad. Look at Edison and the light bulb.
10,000 tries - that's hyperfocus!
They say pioneers had ADD / ADHD. Makes sense. But the inability to concentrate on tasks and ideas that pose no interest to me haven't been helpful in my life.
And there sure are a lot of them.
Humor!

Nope, it sure helps me at work. I can remember things at work, it is like magic! I find work interesting so I hyperfocus and my brain works really well at work.

Well, except for the paperwork aspects, that is mind numbing and feels like punishment for some really bad sin that I forgot that I did. 8(

Yep, I like to turn the electric up to 11 when I am frustrated. It does not sound particularly good, but it makes me feel better and I have a suspicion that it kills any bugs in the house.

I am 49 and have been playing since I was 12.

Rock on bro.

OK, so we start a band. We call it TMbr. We'll sell a million just because people will buy the album (CD, excuse me - showing my age)trying to figure out what TMbr means. They've spent oodles on less.

No "stairway", on the play list, though.
