Deadbeat Dads show back--now on Lifetime

As if Lifetime television doesn't portray men as villains enough already, now Glenn Sacks has emailed about the new Deadbeat Dad show (it was the "Bad Dads" show that Fox dropped) that the station has picked up, just to twist the knife a little deeper:

Lifetime TV announced the launch of its new, father-bashing reality show Deadbeat Dads last week, and Lifetime received several thousand protest letters, calls and faxes last week. This week we take our protest to the Hearst Corporation, which owns much of Lifetime TV.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Deadbeat Dads, originally developed at Fox, follows National Child Support founder Jim Durham as he tracks down and confronts dads who don’t pay child support.” According to Reuters, Durham “functions as a sort of ‘Dog the Bounty Hunter’ for tracking deadbeats…It’s ambush reality TV.” Durham will target fathers who are behind on their child support by “making their lives miserable — foreclosing on their house, repossessing their car. He will squeeze them.”

Last April, Fathers & Families led a highly-publicized campaign against the show (originally called “Bad Dads”) and got Fox to drop it. Now Lifetime TV, which reaches nearly 100 million households, has picked up Deadbeat Dads, which unfairly depicts divorced fathers as uncaring and selfish. Research clearly shows that most divorced dads pay their child support and remain a part of their children’s lives, often under difficult circumstances. In fact, federal government data shows that the overwhelming majority of “deadbeat dads” earn poverty level wages–only 4% earn even $40,000 a year.

Glenn Sacks has more here and an email for those who wish to protest the show to the Hearst Corporation here.

glorying in vengeance by making the lives of boys and men "miserable" has been the obsession of the west's matriarchies for half-a-century now

. . . indulged in with glee, and funded to the max by feminist governments and corporations

typically hypocritical behavior coming from the gender that constantly advertises itself as morally and ethically superior

vile america, you are a darkness unto the world

Every time I read about this show, I just grit my teeth. And trust me, I'm use to feminist nonsense(being on a college campus and all) but something about this show just rubs me the wrong way more so than normal.

Real men pay all child support ordered plus some.

My husband is an executive at a Fortune 500 company, and if we divorce, he will have to pay around $30,000 per month for our child. He is a real man so he would pay it.

Real men get 3 jobs and pick up cans so that women can live as they should with their children.

I'm confused. Why are real men expected to have three jobs and real women aren't?

Lydia: Not every state is like that, the child support paid varies from state to state. There is no way any person would be asked to pay $30K/month in my state. Oh, and if lived here one only gets alimony under extreme circumstances.

You might want to check your state laws to verify what you just wrote.

A "real woman" would learn how to shoot ping pong balls from her vagina for the $1,000/day that Lydia thinks her golden vagina is worth.

I'll bet her girlfriends and Cosmo helped her figure out how much she is "entightled to."

Remember you college gents gunning for big bucks, you too could snag a trophy wife like Lydia... and you will live happily ever after... smirk.

I find it amazing how angry most women get when the subject of male birth control comes up. it makes me wonder what their real agenda is.

No Lydia, your husband is an idiot. Please tell me in any way how $30,000 is needed to support a child? That's asinine. Nice to see that gold digging is alive and well. You must be so proud to be such a strong and indempendent woman.

Rob/Aurelian....I was thinking it's made of the slime that a slug leaves behind. But that would be giving it too much.

Here's an idea, a show on "Deadbeat Moms". Considering that women who owe child support default at a rate of almost 2:1 over men, it seems only fair.

Perhaps Lydia or Fred cares to explain why this disgusting show is okay, but going after the deadbeat moms isn't? Gender bias much?

That's equality. /sarcasm for those that didn't know.

What I see here is jealousy - envy - jealousy - envy.

Do you men here want to be feminists and force women to work outside of the home? Of course not, honey.

Men should find their way to produce - if you are not a doctor, lawyer, corporate executive (and it better be a big company) or the like ... you are a loser. Get caught up on your child support.

Similarly, women have to pick the right man. I have no patience for the hillbilly broad who picks three-tooth dufus with two burned out Pontiacs on the lawn in front of his trailer. Jesus.

I picked a wealthy man, naturally, and we are getting very rich. You people seem to have a problem with wealthy people. Well, grow up. Go out and get it yourself.

Go out and get it yourself. Great advice from someone who isn't a doctor, lawyer, executive, or the like.

Why would somebody have 2 burned out Pontiacs on their front lawn? Those would be taken for scrap in a heartbeat. If you are going to keep 2 spare cars you'd want ones you could mine for parts.

I'm not sure I need a rich guy, but a guy who knows as much as I do about car repair would be kind of cool.

I picked a wealthy man, naturally, and we are getting very rich.Yes, because you work in what field? Seems that your wage slave is the one that is getting very rich. You are the leech that managed to sucker him.

I thank god every day that I didn't marry a western woman. What is really funny, is that my wife makes the same thing I do. We aren't rich, but we aren't poor. And I have the comfort that I don't have to worry about someone like Lydia that will decide to drop me like a bad habit and insist that she is 'entitled' to half of everything, that she did nothing to produce.

You've got to be kiddning me. My ex fought me to have the baby to begin with. But when he decided that he had no more use for me before our son was even 2 years old, and while I was 2 months pregnant with our second, he left us. Homeless. Stole the truck that I bought for US to run a hauling business, refused to pay child support and joined the US Army National Guard so that he could hide there and not be served with a child support suit. It's been a year and a half since he left, and you are damn skippy I want him confronted, since my useless legal system and a scumbag enabling military haven't done jack to protect my children! I would give anything to see him confronted by a real man and be forced to put his mug on national tv so the whole world can see what P.O.S. and DEADBEAT he really is.

Bear80,

Hi, glad you like Snapped. I am not on any of the new ones. I did do 4 shows for Biography on serial killers which should be running now (I think) and another show for WE (Women's Entertainment) on female killers that should come out soon.

Vanessa Blais,

Though I understand your anger, using unsound and probably illegal means to harass men into paying child support is not the answer. Using deadbeat collection agencies that would charge outrageous rates to shake down men in ways that are humiliating and cruel is not only totalitarian, it puts your children in a horrible position--to see their father as a deadbeat who doesn't want them and might embarrass or damage some children to see them on national tv. Is this what you want? Is revenge so important to you that you would risk your childrens' psychological health at any cost?

And what about deadbeat mothers? A higher percentage of them do not pay their child support, yet it is always okay to humiliate and threaten a man. There are other ways to collect child support than using sleazy shows and collection companies.

Helen,
If the man committed murder, it would be just as public. And it would be public for one simple reason. Accountability. That would still hurt the child(ren) as well, but at least my kids will grow up with one important lesson that their father's parents failed to impart.
There are CONSEQUENCES for your actions.
What my ex did out and out equates to child abuse.
What would society say about ME, as the mother, if I were to have gone off and abandoned my children with a man who had no home for them to live in and no way to provide for them? Society would have 'charged' ME with the CRIME of child abandoment, or child endangerment! Let's talk about equality now.

Vanessa,

Women abandon their babies quite often, and it's becoming easier for them to do it.

When the baby is very small, women can now simply chuck the baby into a flap at a designated hospital or fire station or the like. That right comes under "Safe Haven" laws in most states.

Women can give the baby up for adoption. If the woman can't care for herself and the baby, the baby is put with foster parents by the child protection agency.

When men get custody of the child, women are ordered far less frequently to pay anything more than a nominal amount of child support. And they don't even pay THAT far MORE frequently than men. Women can also have a nice lifestyle without showing any earnings (for instance sponging off a boyfriend or husband) much more easily than men - and society even encourages it - so they will have no earnings to show when child support is set.

It sounds like you don't want children. Either grow up and accept your responsibility or put them up for adoption.

Blogger Simone Helps said...

Until you are ready to tell HIM to grow up and 'accept responsibility' don't tell me that.

Safe Haven laws apply to 'very small' babies. Now try having a 2 year old, another on the way, the stress of worrying about money, and a Dad who has a MILITARY income that COULD HELP to provide for his children, but doesn't just because 'society' says 'it will hurt the kids to shame him.' No one seems to give a DAMN that it hurts the kids to have less because their father doesn't give a damn.

And just try terminating his parental rights.

I have 'grown up' and accepted my responsibility. I'm the one who IS HERE. Taking care of them. He needs to be held accountable for them too.

HE WANTED TO HAVE THEM, remember?
