Is this one of those "Let's start a kerfluffle to distract attention from something painful [Blago]" stories?
How is it that a proposition in 1 of 50 states, which made the score 30 for 30 where people have in fact opined at the polls, so dominates the national dialogue.
This is an invocation to open an inauguration, not an actual piece of legislation.
Proportion, people: the shenanigans of Illinois politics are about two orders of magnitude more important than this non-story.

You'll never believe this, I just came back from www.penny-arcade.com and www.woot.com and NEITHER had brought up the Blago issue. It's obviously a conspiracy.

I really can't think of a more non-threatening evangelical than Rick Warren. He's one of the most prominent to step away from the Religious Right's "abortion and homosexuality" dominated approach to political discourse. Though, of course, the phrase "non-threatening evangelical" would probably be considered an oxymoron by a lot of the blogs mentioned in that link.
Non-threatening Evangelical is indded an interesting term! It is honestly laughable to think of committed Christians as dangerous.
If you take away the few skinhead types and the idiots that used to bomb abortion clinics, what are you left with? People who vote and give to charity.
Maybe it is the voting thing that makes us so dangerous.

I find the whole thing amusing and revealing. I can't get over how the lefties get their panties all in a wad every time something doesn't go exactly as they think it should. They want an authoritarian police state that forces everyone to act exactly as they want.
The left preaches about tolerance but are much less tolerant than those they demonize. Next think you know, they'll be roughing up little old ladies and stomping on crosses.

That is the sort of comment that comes from both sides about the other. I think that the reality is that people are far less tolerant of opposing views than we like to admit we are.
Obama has been "wanker of the day" several times with Atrios. It was just righties like the Dr. Mrs. Instapundit who pretended that Obama was some socialist -- lefties always knew who he was. The real rubes are the righties who are pretended that Obama was out-of-the-mainstream during the entire election.

Actually, he ran a fairly mainstream campaign, which is one of the reasons he won.
It is his Illinois record, brief Senate record, and collection of pastors, priests & friends that are outside the mainstream.
Bringing those associations and records to the public's attention was entirely appropriate. Not effective as a campaign strategy, but appropriate.
So, the gay are throwing a hissy fit. Should we care?
well, one good things is knowing that Obama wont let the gay lobby push his administration around.
I dislike a number of comments that Warren has made about gay marriage and what he likens it to. Obama some time ago declared that he opposed gay marriage, but the left/gays are merely saying that they believe they have a right to form a marriage union and that man/womabn marriage is atbest a convention and not a biological necessity (as for example, incest present biological problems and is thus a no no)...gays ask why they should not have equal rights legally when married folks get certain rights that gays do not.
My view: I simply don't care if they marry. Given stats for hetero marriage, straights are not doing the good lord's work!
Yes. Gays are pissed. So too, were blacks and Jews and women and on and on when they believe rightfully that they were regarded as 2nd class citizens.
IO amn reminded of anarchist (ie Libertarian) Paul Goodman, who refused to marry his partner (:a woman) because he said love and such were not the business of the State for approval.
