"Stay positive and focused"

So, how is everyone dealing with the aftermath this morning? I like what Michelle Malkin had to say:

There is no time to lick wounds, point fingers, and wallow in post-election mud.

I’m getting a lot of moan-y, sad-face “What do we do now, Michelle?” e-mails.

What do we do now? We do what we’ve always done.

We stand up for our principles, as we always have — through Democrat administrations and Republican administrations, in bear markets or bull markets, in peacetime and wartime.

We stay positive and focused.

We keep the faith.

We do not apologize for our beliefs.

Good advice.

One sad thing, I talked to my husband last night he doesn't feel like going to work and working hard, because his fellow citizens think that his reward for working hard needs to be spread around. BTW. He does not read political blogs and had know idea what going John Galt meant.

He also asked my me not to run for public office, as he does not want his private life to be made public. What does it say when we have to fear running for office in America.

Michelle forgot to mention the most important thing--buy a gun and lots of ammo.

Heather,

I don't blame him--it is discouraging to hear that your hard work has now turned into a yoke, a tax used by the government to buy off your fellow man or woman. But why be afraid to run for office? We need good people to run. Going John Galt doesn't mean giving up, just use your talents for a different cause, instead of using your time to feed the government, use it to make change.

Good words. The principles I'm primarily concerned about are:

Freedom of speech/freedom of the press. With Obama's support for the "Fairness" Doctrine and tactics used during the campaign, we may be facing the greatest threat to these in decades.

Right to bear arms - Obama's gun control beliefs are well known. A gun store in Cincinnati is already advertising a sale on guns they expect to be outlawed.

Personal freedoms - wealth redistribution, forced community service, national civilian sercurity force, and other aspects of Obama's platform threaten our every day personal freedoms.

Maybe none of my worries will come to fruition but I'm being diligent. Given the Democrats lust for power, and lust for power is at least as bad as love of money, we all need to be diligent.

I remember when the Conservative lost in 1997 in a big way here in the UK and I really empathise with what Republicans and Conservatives must feeling today.

Inevitably after taking such a big hit and forced to the margin, it's going to severely dent the party and the movement.

But you cannot wallow or play the blame game. Its all irrelevant because, sadly, the Republicans *are* largely irrelevant nationally for the next year or so.

I heard a lot of talk about America being a country of the centre right. Well there was similar talk from the Conservatives here in the UK after 1997. People aren't left, right or wrong for the most part. You cannot whistle these tunes in the dark. Instead, you have to reconnect with a younger generation that has little love for Republicans by all account. Not to mention of people of colour who may be even harder to shift.

So yeah, chin up and chest out. Make a plan for 2010 and start seeking out a set of values that all Conservatives and Republicans can rally round. Don't just talk about principles - define them then make them relevant and timely.

British PM Harold MacMillan said what he most feared in government was 'Events, dear boy, events.'

Well this economic crisis won't be the last event President-elect Obama will have to face and next time he'll be in the driving seat.

The time will come when Republicans have opportunities and no-one will appreciate it, at home or abroad, if the GOP does not rise to the challenge. Proaction is always better than reaction.

Note to self: purchase hand gun and lots of ammo.

It is interesting, my wife and I woke up dissapointed and sad this morning, but we both had decided during our morning prep to join the church we had been visiting! It was nothing we talked about, but we both had the same reaction.

Hmmm, I guess I have started clinging to my religion and my guns! 8)

For those who think the world is coming to an end, I have two words - "Mid-term elections."

A President's sway over congress can change drastically in the middle of the term. Just look at 2006.

I doubt that most of the conservative commentariat has learned its lessons, but this is what the Republican Party should be doing...

It should get down on its knees in repentance before God and country. It should repent of out of control spending, and act on that by driving people like Ted Stevens out of the party entirely like Jesus chasing the money changers out of the temple. It should seek stiff-necked civil libertarians with hawkish tendencies who would rather have another 9-11 and respond after the fact with all-out war on the state sponsor rather than establish a domestic surveillance state.

The Republicans should build a new platform on healthcare based on creating hundreds of thousands of new jobs for doctors and nurses, while finding ways to decrease the cost of doing business through legislative reform. Finally, the Republicans should take a bold new step toward proving their small government credentials by getting their congressional delegation to bring to vote before both houses of Congress a bill to abolish a major federal law enforcement agency such as the DEA or ATF, or one to give the FBI a mission limited to a handful of areas of law enforcement.

It is time to rebuild, that's all. Regroup. Get our fantails back to conservative principals that were abandoned in an effort to.....to do what? I never did figure that out. Everything has shifted further left than I believed possible. As Hannity and Limbaugh have been speaking about for quite some time, it showed itself to be a mistake.

In 1968, John McCain would have been a democrat. I think we all realized that a long time ago. He tried to take a high road, and got his butt kicked.

Cham: thanks for not rubbing it in worse. We all know you could, and you have taken some heat from folks in here - me included. I am wondering, though, as a Hillary supporter originally, how you feel about the Obamachine showing her the door. I think she's gearing up for 2012, personally. I would be surprised if she didn't come out then with pistols blazing.

There is talk of re-organizing the conservative movement. If this election has shown one thing it is the disdain - no contempt - the cocktail conservatives such as George Will has for those conservatives outside the Metropolis. Such CINOs must be denied membership in the conservative movement as they are unfit: they side with their "class" not their principles.

I doubt that there will be any election worth the name in 2010 or 2012: the Democrats and the Left will have more control over the process than ever before: they will commit greater voter fraud, they will step up more intimidation tactics such as the Black Panthers in Philly; and, they will drive off GOP poll watchers. This all assumes they will feel any need to conduct sham elections. In a world of tyrannies, there is no one to rebuke them.

Considering they're a generation steeped in liberal indoctrination at school, I'm not surprised. I see parents today who are shocked at how scolding and doctrinaire their kids are towards them these days.

Maybe so, but the kids in the UK are now pretty keen on supporting the Conservatives - what comes around goes round.

Will they still be chanting 'yes we can' in four years time? Umm, I don't think so.

There comes a time when a parent even tells their own kids to get off their butts and get a job.

This stuff isn't going to work. It is not built in to this country.

The 700 billion has not been fully given out yet, because out government doesn't have it.

I was reading a blog the other day, where one was speaking about the Robin Hood thing, eh? Taking from the rich to give to the poor. Trouble is, the commenter did not get the story. Robin Hood was stealing from the bad King and the bad sheriff (the government) and giving it back to the people.

Anyone who believes Obama is going to make their mortgage payments, buy their gas , and even buy them a car (as I overheard in line waiting to vote) is sadly mistaken. Some people are going to be pretty P.O'd. when they find out they've been shucked and jived.

Will you forgive me for voting for Bill Clinton in my youth when I tell you I said just that sentence in the car yesterday to my 14 year old daughter?

Please?

==================================

No.

Well...okay, but only because you have learned from the error of your ways.

I agree with Miket. I would rather see those who wish a return to true conservative values start by kicking the corrupt out of the party. Return to Honesty, ethics and pride as the base from which to build the platform.

br549 says - I am wondering, though, as a Hillary supporter originally, how you feel about the Obamachine showing her the door. I think she's gearing up for 2012, personally. I would be surprised if she didn't come out then with pistols blazing.

I think you can count on that...especially if she isn't offered any kind of cabinet position within Obamas presidency. That would be insult on top of injury. I think you can just about guarantee she will do everything in her power to upset the applecart in 2012.
