Feminist blogs unfairly labeled "Feminist blogs"
Rachel Lucas has a post on delusional feminists in which she is puzzled by an article in Glamor magazine stating that female political bloggers don't get enough attention (yeah, right--I say some get too much, given some of the hatred and nuttiness some of these misandrists spew, but that's another story):
My guess is that some "feminist" blogs such as the above get the attention they do because they are feminist blogs, not in spite of it. As Rachel points out, they don't even mention real political blogs such as Michelle Malkin (nor do they mention Ann Althouse) both political bloggers who happen to be women. I wonder why.
Here’s my favorite part, though. The Glamor article quotes a guy named Ezra Klein and his opinion that “while male political bloggers are known as ‘political’ bloggers, women are more often known as ‘feminist’ bloggers.” Klein then mentions two female bloggers by name (Jill Filipovic and Ann Friedman) as examples of women who are unfairly labeled “feminist” bloggers.
I clicked on the hyperlinks of both those names to decide for myself if they were “political” and not “feminist” bloggers, and in so doing, I discovered the names of their actual blogs. And I shit you not, these two blogs, which it is apparently so very wrong to label “feminist,” are called:
Feministing.com
and
Feministe.us

Obviously to some people Political + Feminine = Feminist.
But the, some people are idiots.
"then," I mean.
Sorry - I went to see the Pope yesterday and I've barely recovered from my swoon.
Bugs, were you holding your gun too tight to type? I joke!
Isn't that amazing, that people who identify and advertise as feminists have developed a market recognition that is in line with their self-identification and marketing?
It must be evil patriarchy.

I don't think anyone is objecting to being called a "feminist blogger." The issue that Ezra seems to be expressing is that often "feminist bloggers" aren't considered to be "political bloggers." Feminist issues are often not considered to be "real" political issues.
Lucas's assumption that feminist blogs necessarily do not have a male readership is wrong. She assumes that feminism is automatically off-putting to men. From reading feministing, feministe, and pandagon for years now, I can assure you that these blogs (especially feministe and pandagon) have a high number of devoted male readers.
Feminist blogs are political blogs with a specified area of interest. Feminists in general have had a major political impact over the past 40+ years and to say otherwise is idiocy.
I've never read feministe but have visited pandagon several times. Totally nuts, irrational and full of man hating. Any male devoted reader would have to be a masochist.
"I wonder why."
'cause they didn't come up in a google search for "wombyn"?
just a thought.
I guess it depends on the main focus. If the main focus is politics, it's a political blog. If it's gender politics, well, that's a 2-word variation of "feminism," isn't it? It certainly has become so.
I'd like to say I wonder if, say, overtly and predominantly pro-Israeli blogs mind being classed as such as well as or instead of the broader grouping of "political blogs." But I don't really wonder that at all, the answer being so obvious.
By the way, having now read the article in full (and all the commentary), I have to say: I might be in love.

High readership and membership does not necessarily equate to a positive message or a message that benefits everyone equally (or one particular group while not hurting others). Those blogs that were mentioned are constantly filled with misandry. Those blogs are filled with readers who would be at home in any number of hate groups.
If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, and even calls itself a duck, well.... quack quack!
I continue to be amazed how ultra-insane feminists, and radical Islamists can exist in the same world and still be seemingly oblivious to each other's existence.
The answer to all our problems is to get these two groups to interact, and nullify each other.
Don't get them together. They'll figure out a way to convince themselves that Islamic strictures against women actually empower women.
Well hell's belles, bugs, didn't you know that'd already happened? I can't find it now, but a few months ago I was astounded to read of some women - some in Britain - who advocated burqas because of the freedom it granted. Or similar nonsense.
Most blogs that identify themselves as "feminist" blogs fall in in the far left wing. I don't think anyone thinks they aren't "real" political blogs, but they also deal with social issues that don't call for a political solution. MRA blogs are the same thing. Gun blogs, and blogs about religion might also have a heavy dose of political content, but they are targeted to more specific things. I suspect that feminist bloggers are happy to be idenfified as such, as opposed to generic political bloggers, because it gives them a more specific market identity.
But, yeah, the feminism in vogue today susbscribes to and preaches a heavy dose of far left politics.
Heh! When you become a liberal, they give you the super-secret conspiracy-theory decoder ring and a blindfold made from eco-friendly hemp.
DADvocate,
You don't have to be a masochist to read Pandagon. Probably half of her readers are from Vox Day's readership who go there to see what sort of amusing idiocy they are spewing after Vox rips her a new one.
Feminist blogs unfairly labeled "Feminist blogs"
I believe it was last week when Dennis Prager was doing his male/female hour and he was talking about how boys and girls are told they are exactly the same, so girls have to expose their naked bodies to prove otherwise. He was saying it is interesting that women are no longer feminine and the main reason is the misnamed feminist movement.
