Yes, I thought the same thing.
Most people have heard that in Israel citizens serve their armed forces and almost all have military weapons in their homes as Reservists. When in the Army in 1976 I attended Armor Officer Basic with some of their Officers. They are always threatened.
Another country also arms its citizens, has annual shooting contests to this day and many homes are built like bunkers, but who would want all that Swiss Chocolate anyway. It is one of the many reasons Germany did not attach during WWII - every adult was armed and trained. Not so in France, Belgium, and all the other countries that got overran.
The citizens of Israel are must like the earlier generations in the US.
