Don't Sweat the Small Stuff
Do you ever just have one of those days when it seems like every bit of technology you have starts breaking down? Today was my day for busted batteries; it started out with getting in my car and just hearing that little click that tells you your battery is shot. So I go to get my cell phone (naturally I am not at home when this happens) which gives a few infuriating beeps with the display indicating, "battery low, phone turning off" and then the phone dies. I went to a family member's house, called the car roadside assistance which was awesome, they were here within 15 minutes--Thanks, Mercedes (no, I do not have an "expensive" Mercedes, I have a 2002 C230 that has been a fairly reliable car up until now). These kinds of annoyances no longer bother me much; as far as I am concerned, as long as the battery in my ICD works; I am having a good day and am not going to sweat the small stuff. If Richard Carlson were here, I bet he would have said the same thing.

A 2002 car is about due for a new battery. 4 years out of one is doing good.
What? You don't have a Volvo with available Bi-xenon headlights?
Since you decided to donate some of your earnings to good causes, it is only natural for something other than good to happen.
"No good deed goes unpunished."
Why point out that your Merc isn't an expensive one? Don't buy into the idea that success, whether monetary or otherwise, is shameful!
Anjali,
Thanks for pointing out my error. I don't buy into the idea that success is shameful, I am a full-fledged capitalist. Frankly, I am hoping to move up to a more expensive car when this one bites the dust.
I hear if you pay the right price, you can even get one with a battery reliable for more than 4 years. lol
Dr. Helen:
When you get an even more expensive car, you have to get a great bumper sticker, like: "More Nukes---Less Kooks."
Did you see the recent photoessay about the SUVs in Berkeley all bearing "No Blood for Oil" and similar bumper stickers!
If I had the buckage, I would get a one of those BMW Boxers.
Eric Blair,
I have something even more annoying--a Bush/Cheney sticker that I left on from the last election.
Funny Helen. With the passage of time, I suspect you and Glenn, or your daughter's generation at least, will come to see that Bush/Cheney sticker more like this:
Last night I saw a deadhead sticker on a Cadillac
A little voice inside my head said
DONT LOOK BACK YOU CAN NEVER LOOK BACK
RIP America. Thanks for selling her out Glenn + Helen. In the long run, we'll keep an eye on you both and see if it was worth it -- what kind of lives will you end knowing, and in the end, how will your "work" be known? Oh yeah, Glenn's gonna protect us all from the outer space aliens next. BooGa BooGa! Good luck picking out that next car. lol
Anonymous 11:42:
Could you possibly be any more of a lefty cliche?
Re: Anonymous 11:42.
Since no one teaches any history, I'm not surprised you would say things like that. I remember how the Left called Gerald Ford eeeeevvvvviiiilllll and I just finished watching how many Lefties say praises of him.
Sure, Anonymous 11:42 might be correct and future generations might despise Bush/Cheney. But I suspect that we will see far, far worse in our near future. And that people we dislike now will seem much more reasonable with time.
Partisan politics is all about doom and gloom. Hard to get people to put money into political coffers, otherwise.
Gerald Ford may have "saved the country" but a lot people still think he showed us that some (Nixon) are above the law. Just like with Cheney's corporate shenanigans. Ford's actions gave us the anything goes lawless late 70s, well into the 80s.
The Bush/Cheney fiasco isn't a myth. It's a lawless anything goes world that will come back to bite many in the butt. Maybe your children's generation. Wait and see, and remember who got a free boat ride out of the deal. Lol.
Fear, insecurity, debt, deaths ... that is what you will see. The Nuke em before they nuke us crowd is craaaaazzzzy. Again, put em on the space invader plan. It's all the military reality men like Reynolds, and his lovely wife, know. Enjoy it while you can, can you still?? lol

Lol. That fear mongering becomes addictive, eh?
"You thought we f*cked the country up bad... Wait til you kids see what's coming! We were just looting the palace before it was stormed. Heh. Indeed. "
LIke the poster on the other thread suggested....
Say, Anonymous 11:26/11:30: in honor of your general personal style, I'll have a venti half-caff drip.
Can I piss in your cup?
I bet they do that too. Lol.
No need for you to give away your personal preferences, pal.
Hey, it's "Lolly" over here, too!
Are you still waiting in line for coffee, trolls?
It's called Murphy's Law of Technology...if I ever find the paper again I will post it...It was required reading for my computer students....
ENJOY YOU DAY!

Ford was criticized for his action at the time. Looking back though his pardon helped to unite the country and bring an end to a dark era.
