Podcast: Eye of the Storm

Glenn and I are in Cape San Blas, Florida on vacation enduring the "wrath" of Tropical Storm Alberto. We first pass through Dothan, Alabama where we have the possibility of going to a gun show or a peanut festival and then head to our beachhouse near Apalachicola where we have a hurricane warning. Join us for our brief podcast interviewing a local waitress, teens, and some staff at the Piggly Wiggly grocery store about this treacherous "hurricane". If you have been watching CNN weatherpeople with their ponchos and those 3 feet "killer waves"--don't believe the hype--get the real story in our ground breaking podcast. Glenn and I survived the storm but did have to deal with the horrible aftermath --really, see the overturned chair?

By making fun of the hysteria, you have now passed the Florida citizenship test. Glenn and Helen, "Snow Birds" no more.

Can one be a "snowbird" when visiting in June?

You mean you didn't go to the local Home Depot to interview the locals buying plywood? You'll never compete with the likes of CNN for the 'let's induce media driven hysteria' prize. And that's worth bragging about in my book.

Ah, yes. We locals are used to the hysterical hyperventilations of the news media using their entire vocabulary to describe the virtual armageddon that is tearing the world apart at the seams, while we're headed out the door for another Tuesday at work. Oh, and Helen, when you resort to cannibalism to survive, it's 10 minutes per pound of Glenn in a 350 degree oven. Mmmm... Thats good human!

Inquiring minds want to know if there was any milk and bread left at the Piggly Wiggly? Ya know, it could just be that the run on supplies took place before you got there!

Thanks... you got a LOT of chuckles out of me. We also suffered the 'wrath' of Tropical Storm Albert here on the SW FL coast.

Scary - very scary. He brought us some very much needed rain. And a lot of hyperbole from national media - that was the scary part(the local media were unanimously thrilled at the prospect of heavy rains...).

Haha.

We made fun of this ourselves, earlier. The Weather Channel, I swear, hyped this so ridiculously. Even I could see from the radar that it would just be rain and some wind.

We were in Brunswick, Georgia, and flew out of Jacksonville to Tampa (horrors!) then home to Houston this afternoon... Even my 90-year-old grandmother agreed it was fine.

The rain, incidently, did great things for the pond behind the house.

Well Tennesseeans ain't Yankees, and they ain't Floridians, the only other monikers that apply are 'tourist' or 'snow bird'. I'm not sure I've ever used tourist affectionately (or without preceding it with 'friggin'). I'll have to ponder this one...

The absolute HORROR of it all.... I felt like I was there, a maelstrom reminiscent of a moderately intimidating rain shower at the local kiddie pool. I'm glad ya'll are safe, and thank you for your intrepid reportage of this latest Created News Nugget, or "C.N.N.", as I like to call them.
Cheers,

It's been 24 hours since Alberto struck, and I STILL haven't seen any sign of FEMA!

Somebody call for a full investigation, quick.

Podcast suggestion... I would be very curious to hear you two interview James Webb, candidate for Senate in Virginia. I've read what I can about him (and read some of his books) and I think he might be the type of Dem that would attract significant GOP support (if he doesn't go too far to the Kos-side).

Yes, we had thought of interviewing him at some point--thanks for the suggestion.

Hi Wicked Pinto,

Thanks for the kind words--do I really seem "conflictory and bored"? Pop culture and movies would be great to review and/or interview guests about. Thanks for the suggestion.
