Obama and guns: "In 1999, Obama proposed to make it a felony for the gun owner if a firearm stolen from his residence and used in a crime was not “securely stored” — effectively negating the homeowner’s right to self-defense."

Scary stuff.

Typical liberal, wants to take away our constitutional right to own guns, and then shoots his mouth off.

He is a rather liberal-left type person, so, I ma not surprised.

I just dont get why so many people are enamoured with barak HUSSEIN obama. Liberals here are behaving like he is the second coming of Christ.

Danny,

I really think it is because far left liberals are typically agnostic or atheists and their progressive causes serve as a kind of religion for them; hence Obama is kind of like the Messiah--futhering their pet causes, like gun control or healthcare. My problem is that many people who are not liberals buy into the Obama worship. I think because he represents some kind of change over the Bush administration and this is good enough--for the moment anyway. I think people are also tired of the negativity thrown at the Bush administration and are gravitating towards a candidate who they feel will "lighten the mood." Just think, everytime we turn on the tv or MSM of any kind, with Obama as president, the world will be a fluffy wonderful place full of possiblities instead of the hellhole it is portrayed to be now.

Well, if that became law, I would sure kill any poor bastard that tried to steal my gun! It gives self-defense a new twist.

I don't get this. When I listen to Obama speak, I feel...nothing. I'm not inspired, motivated, annoyed, offended,...anything. Ok, perhaps a little bored.

For all his talk of hope, I don't come away feeling all that hopeful. It's as if he thinks that by simply mentioning hope often enough, that it automatically makes the speech inspiring. However, other speakers (e.g., Reagan, MLK, etc.), could make people feel hopeful without even mentioning the word "hope" at all.

To me, he just sounds like another politician. Nothing to get excited about.

One would hope that Obama's proposal refers to cases of obvious neglect. A gun owner is responsible for securing his or her weapon. To me, that means when you're around it's under your control and when you're not around it's locked up where nobody can get it. Guess it depends on how Obama would define "securely stored."

Unfortunately, I have to agree that in gun control parlance, "securely stored" probably means "always locked up where nobody can get it, including the owner."

I'm also wondering how many firearms used in crimes are actually burglarized from private homes, stolen from cars, or (the liberals' favorite scenario) taken from their "overpowered" owners during self-defense situations. Anybody have statistics?

Rizzo - That is an interesting point because I've heard his style is comparable to Reagan.

I like to listen to Obama talk. I also like to listen to Harold Ford Jr. talk. Both are great speakers and have keen intellects.

I will never vote for either because of their policies, but I appreciate their oratory.

Obama is the epitome of empty suit politician. He'll say anything to get elected, good orator. Problem is the orations are of nothing. But apparently that's good enough to win the GE. Particularly against unlikeable McCant.

I bet Obama's act will wear a little thin in the next six months. There are only so many ways to say change and hope, hope and change. Eventually somebody will ask him for specifics, it won't be anyone in the press of course, but it could happen.

El duderino,

Chris Matthews asked one of his supporters for specifics. Here's what happened:

Uh, bite me. Being atheist in no way renders you left or liberal, much less far. And you should know better, seeing as how you're aware that some on the right are equally fervent in their following of various idiots and ideas. It's a certain level of gullibility not owned by any political or religious stripe the allows people to blindly follow a soothing voice. Jim Jones, anyone?

Uuh. That's not what Helen said. She said: "..far left liberals are typically agnostic or atheists and their progressive causes serve as a kind of religion for them."

She said that lefties disproportionately tend to be atheists--which is certainly true--not that being atheistic magically renders you a leftie.

Actually, it would be a cheap one, much like gratuitously dragging in someone's religion or lack thereof into a political discussion.

Atheists can be liberal or conservative (me) and blind followers can be liberal or conservative. Blind adoration is not linked to any form of religious belief.

Read much to me like male-bashing reads to some men. You could have made your point without besmirching non-believers. Utterly unnecessary.

Thusly:
I really think it is because far left liberals see Obama as kind of a Messianic figure futhering their pet causes, like gun control or healthcare.

Just to be pedantic, that should have been messianic.

When the anti - Christ comes, (as in Network) he will not be dressed in a red suit with horns and a spear tail. No one is that stupid.

He will be beautiful, well dressed, speak what others want to hear, be eloquent, yet empty. And people will buy it lock, stock, and barrel.

People want to believe in something, in someone. Whether they admit it, or not. Or realize it, or not.

I just don't see anybody at this time, who is running for office. Anywhwere.
