Men and women do similar amounts of household chores.
A reader sent me a video segment from the Today show discussing a study showing that married men are spending slightly more time at household chores than married women without children: 8 hours and 11 minutes for men vs. 8 hours and 3 minutes for women. With women with children, they did only 20 minutes more than men. Note the male suck-up in the video who says the bad rap against men is justified. Even when presented with evidence to the contrary, he can't keep from criticizing his fellow man. Though I don't typically use the term "mangina," I think this man fits the bill.

If you look at the time spend working in the BLS statistics, you'll see that men, on aveage, work 59.4 minutes a day more than women. Some how that's a non-issue.
Could we coddle, pamper and suck up to women any more? Only if all men castrate themselves.
I had the mental picture of my hand leaping up to cover my mouth in an 'o' just from reading you write that. Thanks for the chuckle.
I don't know. Just for me, I have never done equal work in the home and never expected to do so. For one thing, I don't see a problem with dust. I also don't have as sensitive a sniffer. And my motto has always been, if you see a problem, then you fix it. Unless I am better at dealing with it, then it's sort of up to me how to go about it. I don't see a pretty clean (dirty) bathroom as a problem, neither does my urinary tract. Just saying.
Now, if my woman happens to make a lot more money than I do, and assuming I am able, and she doesn't want to clean and still wants a very tidy home, I would have to agree to let her hire a maid. Preferably a really good looking one.
Wrong? Really? I doubt it. Just the truth. I will cook often. But she gets most of the shopping and most of the dishes, I'll pay and handsomely for food though. And I'm a good cook. Most of the rest of domestic is on her. If she does a good job though, I will be easy to train, mostly.
If I end up living with a woman, she will not set foot in my kitchen. I do the cooking. I also do the groceries. I will never trust a woman to not put a metal utensil in my coated fry pans.
I might let her do the laundry, once she proves to me she can do it. She can make the bed, too, and fold bathroom linen. I'll teach her how.
50/50 chance she can do the vacuuming, given what I see women do when they vacuum.
She will have a bathroom of her own. If she sets a toe in mine, she's going across my lap.
Yes, obsessive-compulsive disorder is an adventure.
What is the opposite of obsessive-compulsive? Cause, like, everything for me has it's place... all over the place. Off thread, but curious. I think I like my problem more than I like your problem.
@Doom: You don't have a problem. We don't live together.
And the "opposite" of OCD (everything has its place) is..."all over the place."
like on the soccer field, if you see a problem, don`t point and yell.....do something about it!
my wife and i do things together in the home. we both like similar amounts of clean and tidy, but with comfort and utility. kitchen counters, sinks and storage are clean, utensils are at hand....same with laundry.
renovations and repairs are entirely my domain though, but my wife will assist as she can. as much as my daughter and my wife want to help with the reno, i ask them to leave the lifting of drywall to the guys as that shit is unforgivingly heavy.
and unlike my ex, there is no ocd in my wife...unless you include garage sales and talking scottish!
I don'r clean house. I defrag.
Interestingly, this 'news' comes as a surprise to only about half the population.

I wonder what the averages of work outside the home are. Especially in marriages with children, men tend to work more hours.
I've long thought men put in more hours than women overall in marriage. But I admit I can't prove that, it's just my observation. (My mom disagreed, but I didn't think standing with her hands on her hips barking "you should..." and "don't do>..." counted as contributed the way she did.)
No, but they worry more about holding the whole thing together.
I was sitting at the kitchen table chatting with my mom about a year after my father died. All of a sudden she blurted out, "I had no idea how much your father did around here."
That sort of sums it up for me.
In a more broad context, am I the only one disturbed to find that our government has budgeted our tax dollars for a study so intrusive as to focus on private individual family upkeep contribution from each member of the family?
@AndyOH: Blame N.O.W. and the dems. No doubt they're both furious that "He's" actually pulling his own weight.

The more women distrust men, the more they vote democrat. (Just as the angrier blacks are at whites, the more jews fear christians, and the more people envy the rich, the more they vote democrat.)
@Trust: ...and the libs call the GOP the party of fear.
Oh, the gasping irony of it all.

He said that in the pathetic hopes that his wife would have sex with him later.

I honestly think many women's constant monitoring and criticizing of their husbands tires them out and fools them into not only thinking they do more than they actually do, but into discounting how much their husbands do.
Very good point, Andy.
Just watched the vid.
What vapid liberal spew.
This is what you get when women are in control of 80% of the disposable income in the US. Advertisers and broadcasters pander shamelessly to her insecurity and self-esteem.
No offense.
Oink, oink!
I was spoofing, but only saying the obvious, to my mind, in my comment. What has me baffled is how many men have just been leaping on the "Oh, I help, and more!" bandwagon. I don't think I have ever heard a vow indicating "and equal work around the house, till death do we part". The truth is not only should women be doing more work around the house, they should be doing most or all of it. Though I will agree to taking out the trash, mowing, and a few other things, due to strength issues (but that is based an an acquiescence to the notion of inequality by the woman). But I certainly wouldn't go farther than that. Don't look at me and nod to the vacuum cleaner. Like, right!
Feminism has already won, considering the sorry lot of gamma and betas and worse here. You are debating the house work like Republicans are debating Obama. FAIL. I dunno, I've only lived with women though, for up to 8 years. Maybe marriage castrates men?
Maybe?!
Excellent Post, thanx for sharing the same.. Will keep on reading the post. Share information about blood donation also if you have.
