"So let’s do a victory-lap for gender equality and stop the feminist set-asides and quota-mongering."
Carey Roberts at PJM has an article on how to save real money in Washington DC (Hat tip to Ed Driscoll):
The Republican Study Committee recently announced a plan to prune $2.5 trillion from the long-standing federal spending spree. Yes, $2.5 trillion is a lot of pocket change, but the RSC plan doesn’t go far enough in ridding the federal government of the feminist strongholds salted throughout the bureaucracy.
Let’s be clear: These feminist programs are not about promoting equal opportunity. Au contraire, mon frere. These “female-empowerment” initiatives are all about sex-based quotas, preferences, and earmarks that in practice serve to disadvantage men in schools, in the workplace, and in the legal system.

Of course not. They have never been about opportunity. At best, they are about promoting equal result. In practice, they are simply about better results for women, whether those results are equal or not.
Not only in the feminist realm but in others as well there are programs than promote "empowerment" and equal outcome that have no place in government. The worst and greatest amount of discrimination being done currently is being done by the federal, state and local governments.
From the article at PJM:
Second is a phase-out of the “Fulfilling the Potential of Women in Academic Science and Engineering” program of the National Science Foundation.
These are the kind of bullshit programs that have contributed to America falling behind in education, inovation, etc. We should be working for everyone to excel as much as possible. Helping anyone who wants to be a scientist be the best scientist they can possibly be.
Plus, if the overall female workforce is like what I see in my company, many college educated women are looking to full-time work for 5-10 years and then quit or cut back on hours to focus more on family or to just take it easy.
Well, and then there is the question "Do any of these programs, you know, work?" I thought that Head Start worked, but the research shows that it accomplishes a small bump in performance that is gone by the second grade.
We have had a war on poverty in America since 1964. Wasn't that close to the time the war on drugs started? And how long has affirmative action been going on? Do any of them work?
These programs are all costly but like the people who sued Taco Bell I want to know "Where Is The Beef?"
Trey
Trey - the answer is obvious. If those programs worked, we wouldn't need them any more.
Feminism is not even about 'equal outcomes'. It is a genuine hate cult.
No other special interest group has managed to transform the entire judicial system to suit their whims, bypassing any and all basic constitutional protections that we think we have in the US.
Why is there a parallel judicial system that operations outside the constitution, and is rigged towards the mistreatment of men.
Feminism is the new Jim Crow.
Google 'Feminist Gulag' by Stephen Baskerville.
Also Google 'The Misandry Bubble'.
If you think America is better for men than, say, Egypt, think again.
Off topic, but I want to tell everyone that I have to say a word of thanks to Helen. As you may recall, Helen had a post a few month ago about what not to say to the police. Today, due to a rather large amount of miscommuniction and misunderstanding 2 police officers thought I might be a terrorist because I was attempting to find the owner of an empty lunch tote. You know the drill, empty bag, clearly a bomb.
The police officers approached me visibly hostile. Remembering the video I asked them whether I had done anything illegal. When they told me I hadn't I told them that I was not answering any of their questions and they needed to leave me alone. It turns out if you want to make police officers irate and furious, just do that. The two of them filled out a lengthy report about my refusal to answer questions. There was some fingerpointing on their part exclaiming I was rude and impolite, I suppose it was an attempt to bully me into some answers.
Thank you very much, Helen, for that incredibly informative and useful video. If I had answered their questions they might have found an excuse to arrest me. If you haven't watched the 30 minute video I suggest you do. What a life saver!
Cham,
Sorry to hear that you had that kind of run-in. Glad that there was something on this blog that you felt was useful.
cham, congratulations on keeping a calm head when dealing with authorities.
"is there evidence af a crime officer?"
"where is the victim?"
"if there is no evidence of a crime or offended party, then your job here is that of a peace officer and i ask that you leave me alone and have no further business here."
i had a police officer stop me on my road bike last summer,as she felt that i was going dangerously fast (her words) and i asked her the first two questions and she demanded my driver`s licence. i pointed out that it wasn`t required to operate a bicycle and i cut her short by telling her that she had no authority over me as i hadn`t broken any laws and i rode away.
she did a fast u-turn into oncoming traffic and roared off.
Dr. Alistair, good for you. It's time we all stand together and stop our nations from becoming dangerous police states. Not only did my officers roar off but they left tread marks on the street. I'm going back to take a picture of the tire marks today if the weather clears up.
Dr. Alistair - you got lucky you didn't run into a psycho cop that would punch your teeth out for sassing back. Just sayin'...
i am grateful for my friend marc stevens and his work with challenging the authority of a tyrannical state.
he always asks the officer if there is evidence of a crime and an injured party, whether in court or otherwise.
there are times when a cop will become beligerent, but i`m lucky to be six two and so, in most cases, the officer will step back unconciously.
and cops do snap, even in toronto the good.
a few years ago a cop ran four kids off the road because they didn`t stop for him and they died whent he car hit a concrete culvert.
in his defence the cop said that he felt that the driver posed a risk to the safety of others and felt justified in killing the teens.
sadly though, anything that we do to stand up as individuals does little to quell the eventual police state.
the reason that judges quickly dismiss cases where people challenge the authority of thier tinpot dictatorship is so that the process doesn`t become promoted at all in the media.
youtube occasionally has video of people who are marched out of courtrooms mid-trial. mastersoverieign was the latest that i saw recently, but they get pulled down after a short time due to "complaints".
sorry for comprehensively hijacking the post.....

Dr. Alistair, I refuse to back down and go away on this. You are 6'2", I am 5'3", 113 pounds and because I was on my way to watch some birds so I was dressed head to toe in camouflage. The officers had me in a corner. In my city you can be arrested for using vulgar language and any type of threat to a police officer, so I took special care to choose my words very carefully as anything I said could have been misconstrued. Our police officers routinely lock up people for an imaginary crime and they are released a few hours later on nolle prosequi or charges are mysteriously dropped. The cops do that just so that the citizenry knows who is in charge. Our cops fire their guns at the least provocation and a couple of weeks ago they shot an innocent man AND, get this, an off-duty police officer in street clothes. They are so quick to pull the trigger they shot one of their own.
So far I have spoke to 2 councilmen about this negative police interaction, written an email to the mayor, I am waiting on a call from the police Major at our local district. I will be writing my friend the governor (the local constabulary gets much of its funding from the state) and also will be addressing the Police Commissioner. I can' wait to get a copy of my own police report. I am sure these officers had a few strongly worded things to say about my refusal to answer questions.
See, Helen, you have no idea what you started here. :)
The Lieutenant who filed my police complaint for me just called and read me the police report of the incident over the phone. I was referred to as "unknown woman" in the report, They didn't state that I refused to answer their questions. I guess that would have made them look bad.
So the moral of this story, everyone, is if you don't give the police any information then they can't embellish, falsify or make a huge mountain out of a molehill. Helen should tell that guy on the video thanks for me if she knows him.
i`m not sure why the cops in your town are so trigger-happy but they are still held to the same structures of behaviour as all other cops in north america.
check this guy out;

marc is a good friend and legal activist for people against tyranny of any sort. marc showed me the information that allwed me the language to send that cop away while on my bike and his book, adventures in legal land, is a must-read for persons like yourself who feel the oppression of a tyrant state sending armed thugs into the streets to intimidate the population.
and i`m not sure what video you or helen is refering to but i would like to see it.
I can't find the Helen post where she posts this video, but I found the video:

This is one of the best videos ever.
Here is a quick synopsis of the demise of Sean Gamble who was killed along with with Officer William Torbit by 4 other Baltimore City Police officers in the wee hours of January 9, 2011

Here is the story of the killing of Iraqi veteran Tyrone Brown, who was shot by off-duty Baltimore police officer Gahiji Tshamba in the early hours of June 5, 2010.

I am extremely terrified of police officers. Don't trust them, they will kill you.
cham, i couldn`t find the video as you linked it, google just gave me a series of choices from their list, and the baltimore sun articles had expired...but i get your point about psychotic cops.
it is the nature of the relationship that cops have with their bosses and the absolute autority they are given on the street that messes with their heads.
i grew up with a guy who had been on with metro toronto police for 35 years.
he calls his shield "master badge" and calls civilians sheep.
cops and judges both become unsettled when challenged.
if you visit marc`s site and dig into his material you will see what i mean.
they don`t like being asked questions, i`ll tell you that.
Let me try this again, I'm having trouble with links here at Helen's site. The speaker is Dr. James Duane, who is a law school professor in Virginia. This link to the video is from Maggie's farm:
http://maggiesfarm.anotherdotcom.com/archives/9034-Innocent-or-not,-never,-ever-talk-to-the-police.-Part-1.html
The second video Part 2 has comments from a police officer:
http://maggiesfarm.anotherdotcom.com/archives/9045-Dont-ever-talk-to-the-cops,-Part-2.-This-from-a-police-investigator..html
I actually felt sorry for the police officers. I didn't talk to them to protect myself. They seemed irate, bitter and humiliated. That is exactly their attitude, civilians are supposed to be sheep and they are our masters.
Cham - considering the psychos police officers HAVE to deal with on a daily basis, I think they like it when ordinary citizens act very COWED. It makes their job easier.
I watched the videos, and thanks for re-posting cham.
all i can say is wow, all of my memories of `70s t.v. detective shows came roaring back.
all of our perceptions of pleading the 5th tend toward seeing such people as criminals, yet it was designed to protect the innocent.
