" The conventional wisdom that women all prefer government-provided safety over freedom has been put to rest,.."

Carrie Lukas at the Daily Caller:

Women voters have also defied traditional stereotypes about skewing liberal. While it will take some time to get complete exit poll data, polls taken shortly before the election suggest a major shift in women’s voting habits. Early reports suggest women split nearly evenly in this election. As Mary Kate Cary reported in U.S. News, a recent New York Times poll showed undecided women breaking heavily for the GOP. In fact, women went from favoring Democrats by 7 points last month to giving the GOP the edge by 4 points in the New York Times’ latest polls. In other words, the famed gender gap — which somehow always refers to women’s tendency to vote disproportionately for Democrats rather than men’s tendency to vote Republican, has vanished.

Pundits will spend the next two years debating the meaning of the 2010 Election. But a few things are clear. The conventional wisdom that women all prefer government-provided safety over freedom has been put to rest, and female political leaders do not come in one mold. There are strong, unabashedly conservative women throughout the country who are prepared to fight for limited government and greater freedom. And they can win.

As more women become small business owners and entrepreneurs, I hope the trend towards limited government and freedom will continue.

I think more women are awakening to the fact that these massive budget deficits are going to be dumped on their kids and grandkids. When a person takes a cut in pay, he has the choice of cutting expenses or running up the credit card debt to maintain his standard of living. The government has been running up debt for a few generations now but nothing like we've seen in the past 3 years.

I keep telling people that I don't need a government to tell me what to do - I'm married, and my wife doesn't like their interference.

I never knew there were so many racist women. /snark

A woman I heard on the radio, can't remember who - she may have been a caller, explained it in terms of the budget. Many women handle the family budget, buying food, clothes for the kids, etc. They understand what it means to overspend and run up to much credit. If you can't afford it, you do without.

I'm glad to see a couple of black Republicans elected, and Marco Rubio winning in Florida. All this signals that more people are voting on the issues than on skin color, gender or ethnic group.

This will force politicians to actually do something other than play the same old race/class warfare cards.

no, the female takeover of both "parties" is complete, as is the emasculation of amerika

"The conventional wisdom that women all prefer government-provided safety over freedom has been put to rest, and female political leaders do not come in one mold"

utterly ridiculous -- female political leaders do come in one mold, it's called female firstism or simply femsupremacism

just like male political "leaders"

the police/security state grows daily, as it has the past half century, in exact proportion to the empowerment of females

you should stop "opinioning" and find a strong man to obey, assuming any are left

Perhaps women have become tired of being treated like children by Democrats and liberals.

My wife certainly says she has.

The problem with that idea is the fact that it has become obvious to all but the most zealous that the government's direction was not toward safety but to economic ruin.

I know that at least some women have been breaking into entrepreneurship through cottage industry, and have run right up against the regulatory state. Laws like CPSIA continue to stand in the way of women working at home making and selling goods they use for their own family. While microbusiness isn't an exclusively female domain, many women have found that microbusiness suits their needs better. However, government regulations are written around the traditional kind of jobs where you go to a workplace. It's like they don't even know this kind of economic activity, which the internet has made possible, exists.

If you look at the voting breakdown of single vs married women in 2008, married women were already less likely to vote for Democrats, single women much more. I will bet that's still the case, even if the overall looks like a flip.

Hi, Wacky.

Really? Because women voted more heavily for Republicans than for Democrats? Republicans aren't for limited government any more than Democrats are. They're both in favor of "energetic" government; they just have differences of opinion as to where the government should focus its "energies". Until women start voting for actual libertarians (not all Libertarians are libertarians) who actually demonstrate that they're libertarians in action and not just in rhetoric, I refuse to believe that women (or men for that matter) want limited government.

Wacky...CPSIA in particular has been a catastrophe for many small female-owned businesses. Republican candidates need to do a far better job talking about *specifics* like this rather than merely opining in general and abstract terms about "regulation," etc.

Wacky--Oh, that form of economic activity predates the internet by centuries. Since colonial times, American women have been earning income by producing goods and services at home--usually not enough to support a family, but enough to supplement their food and clothing supply, or provide better education or leisure for their chidren. Think butter and egg money for rural women, or taking in sewing or giving music lessons.

I'd say the assorted restrictions against things like growing produce for sale in city limits, or watching a neighbor's child for an hour before school without a license, show that legislators and bureaucrats are very are aware microbusinesses exist, and want to assert as much control over them as they have over every other business.

Women operate differently than men. The don't rage into battle, make grand statements and they aren't prone to insults. They can be polite and unobtrusive. One doesn't necessarily recognize when they are making headway. People don't see what is happening until often after it has already occurred.

Cham, none of those are gender related traits. They are aspects of personailty. And if you think they represent all women you need to meet more women.

You can believe me or not believe me, but I have been carefully studying data that has not been publicized by the media and I can see a pretty clear shift that the money, assets and power of the United States is moving over to women. I recognized another change this morning that the percentage of women who are buying homes is on the increase. In the area where I received the numbers the percentage of women who purchased a home in September and October of this year exceeded men, I didn't calculate the exact number but I would guess it was about 60/40, and I have never seen this particular area do that.

Do women want a return to 12-hour workdays for wages that do not provide enough food to keep her children from being hungry? For her children to go to work at age 8? For her parents to die before age 70 or be debilitated because healthcare is only available to the rich and upper middle class? In other words, a return to the 19th century? Because that is the goal of the Republican Party.

More and more women are waking up, like the rest of America to what is really going on. They see that their real security is in extreme danger and this election is just a reaction to that. My wife has come way around to my way of thinking since she has been looking at the same sites that I go to for news. As more women become active and do real research we will see a bigger swing to the right. The GOP had better look out then!

Women are communists in the main. They always have been. They always will be. This is because most women are incapable of doing anything truly useful past popping out babies. All these 'jobs' women have are a joke. When was the last time you saw a woman construction worker?

Women are not waking up to anything. Pretty much ALL women and the vast majority of men are dumbed down to the point of imbecility. A good example is that most of them think voting for a different 'party' might actually make a difference.

Anyone who has not yet realised that ALL political parties are controlled by the PTB are dumb as rocks. They are so obvious about it now a man has to be a complete moron to not realise the both sides of politics are controlled by the same people. In the US that is via the Council on Foreign Relations which Hillary Clinton called 'the mother ship' and which Dick Cheney laughed and told people "Of course I didn't say I was in the CFR back in my constituency".

Hmmmm Hillary Clinton and Dick Cheney both up to their eyeballs in the CFR? Alex Jones did a masterful job in the video 'The Obama Deception' to point out how both sides of politics in the US are owned, lock, stock and pork barrel by the banksters.

That women are 'swinging' in their votes just shows you how stupid they are. All intelligent people do not vote at all.

I am a strong man to obey. But really. I can't be bothered keeping a woman any more. They are more trouble than they are worth. More trouble than keep a dog....and I had one of those for years. A female one at that.

I have no problem with women running for office per se, but I must note they are about as inspiring as a block of wood. When Dr. Johnson was told of a sermon made by a woman, he was not surprised it was done poorly, but that it was done at all.

It is a sad reflection that there are so few actual men left in the Republican party, that women have to step up. I guess that is what happens when you have a war against masculinity for thirty years.

I see a lot of mentions, of the R party, and the D party. Contemporize, people! There are three parties now. Due to the laws, the T's have had to make use of the R's, but only for the time being.

Behind the curve, these people are.
