I agree with the 5 points neo-neocon makes except: "It makes him appear tough..."
Obama projects very little toughness. Not to say whether he is tough or not, the appearance just isn't there. Refusing to appear on Fox does nothing to make him appear tough, quite the opposite actually.

IMO, both are correct. So where should I get my news?

i make the distinction that news is what effects me now.
things like destructive weather, locusts, avalanches, hurricanes, imminent war, etc.
everything else is entertainment of one sort or another, depending on whether you are a depressive, nihilistic, masochistic, sadistic or otherwise starved for seeing others struggle.
the news splits us into opinionated agressive groups that will never agree on anything, considering how far apart the two political positions in this country are.
meanwhile they go on unnmolested.
divide and conquer.
Consistent with dr. alistair's posting, I respond to HMT's posting by positing that "No news" is morally superior and preferable to "False news".
Continuing along dr. alistair's line of reasoning, if we remove, if we filter out all of the "News" that is truly not relevant to our lives, then what remains is a teaspoon worth of information every day. I have no interest in how much money celebrity xxx made on their last movie, or that person yyy why got caught screwing her next door neighbor, or that Brittany Spears offered an intellectual perspective on foreign policy.
With greater frequency every day, more Americans are adopting this position. Consequently, nearly all print media, and much of the broadcast media are on the final road to failure and collapse. They have self-destructed. RIP.

IMO, both are correct.
To be more precise: CNN, NYTs et al are attacked for submerging their bias, pretending they are objective while spoonfeeding you with spin hot off the DNC's fax.
I prefer FOX because conservative povs are presented fairly, and without "weak sisters" [ie. some doddering fool with an R by his name].
The clincher is instances where its 4th and goal - Florida 2000 recount, Swiftboat Vets, ACORN, etc. Thats when the leftist media doubles-down with spin and censorship of ommission. During those times, FOX is the only network to turn to as an information broker.
Its also telling that many Leftists are too chickensh*t to appear on FOX.
Republicans have ALWAYS been willing to take their message to CNN, MSNBC, ABC/cBS/NBC. Regardless of how much they are misrepresented or beat up.
HMT is correct. Bias is everywhere, so you're left with scanning all possible sources and using your own good sense to decipher the lies and deceits.
As for me, I would richly love to see a news organization that takes right wing perspective seriously. Fox does NOT do this! It is a self-parody, a photographic negative in blackface (dare I say whiteface?) of the American political right. And as the only news organization that even entertains the right wing perspective, it embarrasses our position with crybaby born-again, chalkboard-addled lunatics like Glenn Beck and ignorant blowhards like Bill O'Reilly.
My favorite dunce on Fox is Neil Cavuto, the most shameless apologist for corporate criminal behavior that ever lived. If you want to develop a contempt for capitalism, watch Cavuto.
I will never forget his award-winning dance of bullshit when Kenneth Lay and cronies were convicted in the Enron scandal. His first words: "Let's not be hasty! They may have just been bumblers, not crooks!"
Bumblers! Can you imagine what Kenneth Lay's CV looks like?! Do you think his doctoral thesis at Wharton was titled "The Effects of Whoopsie-Daisy on a Bifurcating Economy?" Cavuto should have hung him out to dry! There should have been a demand for accountability on Wall Street and at Enron. The country should have been shown that people who break the rules pay with their internal organs, not showered with flimsy excuses. Cavuto did for Kenneth Lay what the Pope has done for pedophile priests for centuries: "Move along, nothing to see here, go about your business..."
It's hardly a wonder this country is turning to the Left. Intellectually bankrupt flatulence factories like Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck make conservatives look like thoughtless, knee-jerk reactionaries and ideological junkies.
Don't even get me started on Sarah Palin. I've met bulldozers with more brains than that high school cafeteria mystery meat shoveler. If an idiot like Katie Couric can play with her like a kitten plays with yarn, I shudder to think what Putin or Armadinnerjacket will do.
Thomas Sowell and his ilk are, to me, the best representatives of what conservatism is and should be about. To advocate something real, permanent and resonating with the antecedents of successful societies for centuries. But Americans much prefer the knife-in-the-ribs barbs of Ann Coulter, who calls Democrats "faggots" and then tries to pass herself off as an intellectual.
If we have to stoop to bestseller-hungry, sound-byte chasers like Ann Coulter, it's hardly a wonder the country turned away. We have only the GOP and a culture of celebrity-worshippers to blame. The substance has left our party, or at least has been bound and gagged by hacks in search of their next book signing tour.
I feel utterly abandoned and betrayed by every conservative in the media. I didn't leave the party; the party left me.
Kevin, I agree with you about Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams and other erudite conservatives.
I see Coulter as an entertainer/provocateur, and enjoy her if I am not often educated by her.
Most of the other folks you chastise, apart from Cavuto, I enjoy and even admire. Intellect is not everything to me. I place a value on character and morality. I bet you do to. Perhaps some of the other people you mention are helpful to the conservative cause in ways other than their intellect.

@Tmick: I can appreciate, to a point, the gist of what you wrote; however, I must disagree with your basic point (unless I misinterpret what you wrote) about the intellect.
I was discussing a political affiliation and ideological basis. What, apart from the intellect, is worth noting?
When someone asks me what my politics are and I tell them, I don't want to be identified with a pack of stand-up comics or late-night gag writers. My political beliefs run far deeper than that. And when the party that used to represent pride in this country and a desire to see it perpetuated is now identified with trumped up media goons, then I am held to account. I am utterly aghast that a "conservative" would say they respect someone like Glenn Beck. If a raving lunatic escaped from a mental ward and claimed that globalists were trying to undermine the sovereignty of this country, that doesn't much lend credibility to this country's right to exist when a lunatic is the most notable proponent.
There is the message and there is the messenger. Few of us have forgotten the message, but the messengers known to carry that message are so lacking in credibility that, well, you can hardly blame people who don't want to hear it any more.
I've said my piece. The Democrats have always been the Party of stupid lunatics and teenagers as far back as I can remember. But of late, the Republicans have turned into the Party of the Street Gang, Hate Group and Thoroughbred Clique. I don't see myself telling people I believe in conservatism any more. Maybe at heart I'm a libertarian. But in 50 years, this is the first time I don't feel right about being right any more.
