When I listened to the couple, I heard them talk about wanting to experience deep emotions within the relationship. I think this would be hard to achieve given that sociologists have shown that dyadic relationships are usually the most intimate. I know that I usually feel the intimacy level go down when my spouse and I hang out with others. I have to distribute my attention more equally. Frankly, polyamory seems like too much work, both emotionally and physically.

There are days I think the world gets up at 4:00 am to think up new ways to make me regret trying to be tolerant and keeping an open mind...like today.

My gut feeling is that Mr. Lessin is gay and this was a compromise of his wife to keep him and let him have his jollies at the same time. If it works, all power to them, but I'll wager that it won't (he seems like way too much of a flake.)
