Men dropping out of the workforce at greater rates

Men are not merely becoming unemployed in greater numbers than ever before. They are actually dropping out of the labor force at greater rates than before, which is different....
In March 2009, the BLS reported that 1,162,000 women and 1,238,000 men had shifted from "looking" to "stopped looking" in the preceding month. So not only are men and women now exiting the labor force at roughly equal rates, but if current trends continue, men will start doing so even more. The increase in the number of women dropping out from December 2007 to March 2009 was 38%. The increase in the number of men dropping out was 90%.

When I hear that someone is no only unemployed but no longer looking for a job, I can't help but wonder who they're mooching off of. Unfortunately, all too often, that is the taxpayers.

To both sides, I say "must be nice to be a good-for-nothing mooch." The matriarchy got you down and preventing you from being employed? Here, let me get my insurance card and call you a waaaaaambulance. Oh, sorry. They don't cover that. Better lobby the Democratic Congress and Obama Administration instead.
There are more men dropping out of the workforce because there are more men employed to begin with & the economy crap is the cause of it.
Cut the crap & look around you. Do you really want a whiney bitch who does nothing all day but talk on her cell phone or an actual employee who actually works- i.e. a MAN?

Could be early retirements, buy-outs and such. I suspect maternity accounts for a lot of women who abandon the work force.
There is also a spike in graduate school enrollments. Do those people count as "no longer looking for work"?

Part of it is also people dropping out of the 'official' economy, I know quite a few people that just work for cash under the table. Much better option for some people.
We can speculate on the "why" men are dropping out of the workforce for eternity.
I would imagine we will foresee many more men and women gleefully departing from the American workplace for many decades to come for no other reason than that more and more of us (both men and women) have come to see the workplace as superficial, duplicitous and deceptive. Too many greedy people at the top playing carrot-and-stick games with a formerly trusting labor base.
Say what you like, but the shenanigans from Enron, Tyco, Madoff and the rest of the MBA (scumbag) crowd have turned off a lot of people who once believed in the work ethic, delayed gratification, etc. If I had kids, I'd tell them to find a way--any way possible--to be self-employed. It may not be easy or profoundly rewarding, but it's sure tough to stab yourself in the back.
