Why no fluff pieces about Bush's dogs?

We just got back from D.C. and while there, took a tour of the White House.

Did you know that President Bush has two dogs? I didn't, until I saw some pictures up in the West Wing of him playing with them. What I find interesting is that we heard about the Clinton's cat, Socks, nonstop, and their dog, Buddy. Now, the Obamas are just thinking about getting a dog and the media just loves the story. The main time we heard much about the Bush's dogs was when one bit a Reuters reporter. Who can blame him? But it just goes to show, no ongoing fluff media pieces for Bush, it might make him too human.

Can anyone here tell me the breed of dogs Bush has without googling the information and tell me their names?

How often, or when, have you ever seen photo of Bush with his dog other than the bite item? Dog never around so never photographed. Don't look for conspiracies when the answer is simple.

Scotties if I recall correctly, I just saw a piece on FoxNews the other day about their Christmas video - it's the only reason I have any idea. Before that I had no idea that they had two dogs.

"Dog never around so never photographed"

Really, that's odd, given that they are on the front of the Whitehouse site and the photographs of Bush and his dogs are hanging around the White House --I am sure that puff pieces could easily have been done by reporters had anyone cared.

You beat me to the answer. But I'll add that pointing out media bias is not the same as saying there is a conspiracy theory, as you were falsely accused of.

Get ready. We've been building hospitals and schools in Iraq for years. Starting January 20, the media will take an interst in it.

They are activists masquerading as journalists.

I do hope that dog was properly rewarded for his service, say with a big steak. Too bad it wasn't a bigger dog.

Reason is because the media exists to demonise Pres Bush, not to write anything complimentary.

To all,

So far, we have two correct answers--they are both Scottish Terriers and one of them is Barney, no not Frank. What is the other one's name. Hint: it is a female dog.

Our nation's economy has tanked. we are fighting two wars. We have political corruption (Illinois) and infra-strucrture in tatters. Dol I care about Bush dogs? Nah. Obama's possible dog? Nah. Focus always upon incoming and thus unknown guy and not on the tail end of a very bad presidency. FDR dog? Falla or something like that.

As for the comment about it being too bad the dog that bit the reporter not much bigger: I was badly bitten from 180 pound dog attack while jogging so the remark strikes me as not in keeping with the holiday spirit.

In the spirit of Christmas and citing the concern that there isn't enough positive comments by the media about our illustrious leader, maybe we should have a thread allowing commmenters to post positive attributes and deeds about President George W. Bush.

Dear troll (Fred) - why aren't you out saving the world instead of trying to cover for the biased left-wing press corp? Oops, I forgot. You want to protect anything and everything left wing.

I had no idea whether Bush had dogs or not. I do find this curious since the press provided plenty of attention to LBJ and his hound dogs, the older Bush's dog, Millie, plus Clinton and Obama's pets and wanna be pets.

I have a feeling that even the cynics among us will be amazed at how many things start being given a positive spin after Jan. 20th.

Hmm... If one dog is Barney, and the other is female, I'll guess her name is Betty, just for grins.

It shouldn't strike me as odd that so many people don't know squat about dogs. But yet, it does. It's all about pecking order.

Something that runs == prey, dog == predator, and the chase is on. The proper response is to stop running, turn and face the pursuer. Square up and show no fear. At that point, the equation changes to you == alpha male, dog == beta male, and the beta will defer to the alpha.

But that also means that you have to be willing to break open a can of whoop ass to insure compliance. Sometimes the beta doesn't like being dominated, and will seek to improve his position. Or he will not allow you to claim alpha position without a fight because you're not part of his pack.

In the case of the reporter, he made several classic mistakes in approaching a dog. He approached too quickly, he came in from above, and he reached down toward the dog's head. The dog reacted instictively to what he considered to be an attack. So the reporter got what he deserved, as he initiated combative contact.

At least from the point of view of the dog.

The Springer Spaniel, if still there is named Spot. The Scottie's are Barney and Msd. or Mrs. Beazley.

Gotta love Google.

I'm late in posting but I knew the breed and the names. Barney recently nipped a CNN (IIRC) reporter so he has been reported on lately. I admire his choice in ankle-biting.
I've enjoyed having Scotties in the White House as I've a bit of Scots blood and I love the truculent little beasties. They may be small but they've got true auld blud in 'em!

Well, that's too bad... because most people don't know what a contribution Barney and Miss Beazley make to the White House. Indeed, they are primarily responsible for the White House decorations this year.

It's a "damned either way" situation. If there HAD been coverage of the Bush dogs it would've been about how the Bushes were irresponsible for getting purebreeds instead of mutts. Or how they were irresponsible for letting a dog bite a reporter ("why, I bet they actually told the dog to attack!"). And then we'd get the occasional truly vile comment about Laura having sex with them. We should probably be grateful the whole topic was left alone.

Somebody get that dog a rabies shot, stat - god knows where that disgusting reporter has been.

Seriously, with the exception of attacks by truly vicious and disturbed dogs, most people who get bit are asking for it - either they approached the god like a total f*cktard and spooked him, they teased him or they got between a couple of dogs having some fun wrestling.
