Rock Star Foreplay
So far this Labor Day Weekend, I haven't done much except read and hang out in various restaurants and outside. While sitting in the sunshine, I read a recent copy of the Star which I couldn't resist since it had the "best and worst beach bodies," but that's something that I won't bore you with at this time. I couldn't help but notice another story about soul diva Amy Winehouse with a picture of her bleeding husband that I recognized from this post at Jezebel.com about women who enjoy beating up men. The accompanying gossip in the Star was that Winehouse is living a wild life that is spiraling out of control with drugs, rehab and rowdy fights between the couple being the norm. The picture you see here is Winehouse's husband Blake after Winehouse apparently cut him in a hotel room. The two were photographed while coming out of a London hotel dripping with blood after a "tumultuous predawn brawl."
I thought this couple was an interesting example of the type of reciprocal violence that was discussed in this post on the dangers of both partners getting involved in fights. Often the man is the one who is injured more severely in these cases but you would never know it when you hear about domestic violence. Even the women themselves say that they initiate violence with their mates but apparently no one is listening. Wikipedia (take this for what it's worth, its Wikipedia afterall) reports that Winehouse admits that she is often the instigator of violence with her husband:
Okay, so neither of these two is a paragon of decency but my point here is that reciprocal violence can end in injury to both parties. I certainly think people should be able to fight like this if that is the sick (or fun) type of relationship they are looking for. However, once the law is given the authority to intervene, the police and other law enforcement should not be prejudiced enough to think that only women are victims and men the perpetrators because clearly, this is not always the case.

In a series of texts between the singer and celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, the singer said "I was cutting myself after he found me in our room about to do drugs with a call girl and rightly said I wasn't good enough for him. I lost it and he saved my life."[44] [The Star adds here that Winehouse says, "He saved my life again and again and got cut badly for his troubles"]. In a June 2007 interview with World Entertainment News Network she was quoted as saying "I'll beat up Blake when I'm drunk. I don't think I have ever bruised him, but I do have my way. If he says one thing I don't like then I'll chin him."[45]

similar sort of chemical abuse, and physical violence
Amy Winehouse has issues. I am sure her husband has issues too. If either one of these folks had any brain cells they would separate and then get the necessary help for their addictions to drugs and alcohol, and also visit a competent therapist who can help them with their behaviors and destructive personalities. And if they can't stop hurting other people they need to do a stint in prison. They are both megalosers and shouldn't be taking up room in magazines and newspapers.
She's the only new artist I've heard this year that prompted me to go out and buy a CD. Personally she may be a loser, but artistically, she's anything but. And she's not the first artist to burn the candle at both ends for the benefit of an audience.

Ya think?
She was cutting herself in the bathroom, her husband showed up just in time to save her life accompanied by a callgirl, she then cut him.
Thats a lot of. . .crazy right there.
I was a roadie for a rock band that toured Europe in 1983. Everyone in the band was addicted to heroin, and so the dynamic was... uh... intense: Junkies tend to be agressively temperamental when they aren't nodding off.
A psycologist could have written volumes about it. Taught me a lot about human nature.
I've been following the Carnival of Celebrity Criminality pretty closely this summer.
Partly, I admit, my interest had been piqued by sheer prurient amusement. But partly it's because staring through the micriscope into the Celebrity Petri Dish O' Horrors--specimens include luminaries like The Lohan Clan, Britney, Paris (Is she burning yet?), Nicole Ritchie, Michael Vick & Pacman Jones--has given me a little more insight into some of the particular prejudices & unfair expectations suffered by men & women in different circumstances.
Not to say that many (all?) of these folks need to take more responsibility for their own circumstances. But I'm getting a better sense as to the conditions that create them.
More on this when I've digested the data a bit more. Paris isn't much of a meal but Michael Vick is a snack & a half.
That was tasteless, I know. So was Paris. I had to dress up that dish with fava beans and a nice Chianti. Lindsay, well, I admit, I just rolled her and smoked her...
I'll stop now.

Who's the dork with the stupid hat? I'd be tempted to wail on him too.
Maybe they'll beat each other to death. That would be two more freaks about whom I need no longer receive more information than I want.
Sorry - I have no sympathy for "artists" who "burn the candle at both ends for the benefit of the audience." By romanticizing their behavior as something that enhances or complements their "art," we encourage others to act stupid and die young. Me, I can't do it. It's not about us - it's about them and their egos. Janice, Jimmy, the Singing Nun - take your pick. Dead losers.
That dork with the funny hat is a loser, especially if he cant fight off his drug-addled wife, who is a really petite-sized woman.
His membership in the Man Club needs to be revoked ASAP!!!
Those two can do whatever they like to each other, so long as they don't breed.
I'd never heard of Whinehouse before the recent cock-up. People keep going on about how "talented" she is and what a waste that she's throwing it away. It inspired me to watch a bunch of her videos on Youtube.
My opinion? CRAP.
If Whinehouse were black, the press wouldn't give her a second glance. But because she's an ugly white woman with a black voice, she's
"soulful." Ugh.
theres an interesting story in the uk papers today. About why rockstars die young
http://tinyurl.com/ywchjt
The research into 1,000 stars of the last 60 years found they were at the greatest risk from drugs, drinks, suicide, car accidents and plane crashes in the first five years of becoming famous.
The British team behind the study say the statistics are so shocking that the music industry should be regarded as a 'high-risk' profession.
They should also act as a warning to the 'X Factor' generation who dream of stardom - along with self-destructive rockers such as Amy Winehouse and Pete Doherty
Out of the 100 who died before 2005, at least a quarter were killed by drink and drugs.
I seem to be addicted to food. Is there a therapist in the house?
I have a steak addiction.
I do not have a broccoli addiction.
So I must be OK.
Jeeze. Drs. prescribe drugs because they help.
People take drugs because they help.
You know. I keep wondering why those insulin addicts keep shooting up. And why no one stops them from injecting drugs every few hours. Can't people recognize the signs of addiction?
So why don't people seek cures? Esp. those who can afford it.
People take drugs because they help.
People take heroin because they're stupid.
lou minatti: Who's the dork with the stupid hat? I'd be tempted to wail on him too.
His name is Blake Fielder-Civil, but that's all I know.
lou minatti & danny, implying that a man is less of a man because he takes a beating from his significant other is the kind of thing that we should be frowning on. Don't you realise that is exactly why men don't speak up more often about domestic violence they are experiencing?
arden- thereis abig difference between a man who is a genuine victim of spousal abuse, and this loser, drug-addled rock-starwho gets whupped on by his petite sized, equally drug-addled, wife.
I dont think that men wh o suffer domestic violence and psychological abuse, look upon these loser rock stars as role models.
Trust me, I know only too well. My dad is victimised daily b ymy mom,and he has beenan anoexic since I was in m ymid-teens.
Which is why I left for good the day I got into college, andhave never gont back into the abusive and totally dysfunctional household that my mom rules over.
Danny- sorry to hear all that about your family.
But I don't see a how this rock star (however big of a loser he may be) is any different than anyone else who is being abused. The fact that he's drugged up only worsens the situation.
At any rate, your statement about
"His membership in the Man Club needs to be revoked ASAP!!! " is not how we should look at our fellow men. Its as tho your calling him a sissy. Drugs or no, it's not very constructive language in the fight against domestic violence towards men.
Waking up in bed next to Amy Winehouse every morning is abuse enough. I pity the fool...
Anyway, I don't think getting pummelled by a girl necessarily means you're a sissy. Some men are just less easily provoked than others. A gentle, laid-back personality combined with societal rules about dealing with women could be why some guys don't deal more forcefully with their abusive partners. It is possible for a nice, relatively innocent guy to get involved with a complete psycho bitch. Not saying that's what's going on in this case, but it wouldn't surprise me.
Arden- it is a joke, for heaven's sake!!!!! :)
havent you heard normal, straight guys joking around about revoking each other's manCards? or about invoking the ManRule#231? or other harmless trash-talking of that nature?
Admittedly, sensitive, new-agey, leftist academic type of men dont say things likethat, bt,hey, are are fully male either.
Arden- my initial comment was meant to be a joke.
Amy seems an extereme form of Borderline to me. She also seems more intent on self destruction than anything else- her music has sort of advertised her decline and death in advance of the event and it is possible to look on and tick off each of her songs as they come into the news.
The interesting thisng is that she has become a Lesbian Icon- they seem to love a good tragic heroine and love a beautiful corpse even more. I wonder what the connection is.
Amy as a beautiful corpse? I think death might improve her looks a little, but not that much.
Speaking of violent femmes, I suppose everyone's read about this?
When I heard her voice, I thought she was a messed up black lady, probably 300+ pounds, depressed and drinking.
Then I saw a picture and realized she was a little slip of a junkie, italian or puerto rican, not even black. a beautiful voice, going to take the long hard road to hell.
Junkies generally are nuts. A good rule is not to associate with junkies. Remember, there is no bottom. They can go down for ever. They could pull up at any time if they wanted.
My question is, why can't we have the beautiful voice without the stupidity, skankiness, and self-destruction? Do they start out this way, or do they get co-opted by a destructive culture? Or is it all an act to make them seem more "real?"
