Podcast with the Secretary of the Army
We are joined today by the Secretary of the United States Army Francis J. Harvey who talks with us about recruitment of new troops, retention of old troops, the Army's new advertising campaign--"Army Strong"--and other pressing issues. My interest in speaking with him was in finding out if opposition to the military in high school and college campuses was a concern, if the Army has lowered or raised its standards on the qualification test in recent years (so many psychological patients in the past have told me that as teens or young people, they were given a choice between jail and the army) and to ask about the reinstatement of the draft which seems to be a scare tactic of the antiwar crowd. If you want to know the answers to these questions or learn more about the current state of army recruitment, take a listen to the podcast.

Very, very interesting. Too bad I have to listen to a show made in someone's basement to learn this stuff.
The music was different, but good.
I think it's too bad that it's the ONLY source, but I like getting it this way.
I would like to make a request, or sugestion:
I'm a foreigner, and I understand better the written word than the spoken one. I also don't always have speakers while surfing from work.
Could you possibly add transcripts of the podcasts ? Would,t that be too much trouble ?
Anyway, unless you interviw some model or actress, there is no much value added in seeing a speaking head.
I hate to complain about free stuff, but let me second Jacob in that a transcript is much more useful for me and easier to access than either audio or video.
Thanks,
Drew
Jacob, Drew and anyone else who is interested:
Thanks for your suggestion. Our podcasts will now have transcripts at the Pajama's media site four or five days after the podcast is posted. Some of our transcripts are already available at:

Good Stuff! How do you get someone like the Secretary of the Army for the show? I know, I know, you asked... I just wonder since the Army has been very much interested (especially CENTCOM) in blogs lately.
Was your request for an interview (if, indeed you made one) treated routinely - or did it raise a few eyebrows at DA?
Thanks for the LoFi version. I just wish PoliticsCentral would do the same for other 'casts, like Blog Week in Review. It's the words I concentrate on, not the bumper quality. I don't need 30 MB for a half hour of conversation.
Of course this will all be immaterial when I get broadband out here in the sticks of New Mexico, but wasted bits are wasted bits.
I am glad to learn that transcripts will be available. My ability to listen to podcasts is limited and I know I've missed many fine interviews. Nevertheless, I still don't see how you manage to blog, podcast, work, parent, eat and sleep. Something's got to give.
Major John:
The Secretary's Public Affairs Officer contacted us, and we set it up. Apparently they'd heard some of our earlier podcasts -- not sure which ones, but I'm guessing the Bay/Dunnigan shows.
