I agree with the characterization of bloggers as verbal and intellectually curious people or, as I would put it, as people who want an expanded forum for their ideas. Reading blogs give me access to a greater variety of expertise, thoughts, and values, and I benefit from reading several internet resources.
I don't think of bloggers as more or less interesting than the "real" people in my life and I don't want to meet people that I read at blogs. Going online lets me meet people with different ideas and, while I like the intellectual stimulation and the opportunity to learn new things, the bottom line is that internet blogs are often intellectually contentious forums. At the end of the day, I want to live and work with people who generally share my values and view the world the way I do.
So if I belong to a group blog, do I have a multiple personality disorder?
Having met a number of bloggers - from milbloggers to the diarist type bloggers, to news oriented bloggers I must say that they are certainly a diverse group.
The thing about having a blog and getting together with other bloggers is that it immediately gives you a point of reference on where to start a conversation. Even if you haven't read that person's blog - there are many topics to talk about from the style of blog you write to the types and number of blogs you like to read and anything in between.
The personality types even remain consistent from the extroverts who carry the gathering to the introverts who throw in the occasional word. In other words not all bloggers are alike even though we like to write for a wider audience than keeping a diary.
I have found the other bloggers I have met to be friendly and genuinely interested in seeing what can be found back at my blog. This constantly surprises and delights me. I enjoy reading what others have to say, and also enjoy the fact that my ideas seem to have found an audience. That said, some bloggers are definitely more gregarious than others. Only makes sense, I guess. It would be a boring world if we were all the same.
I think only 3 (Bloggers are optimistic) and 5 (Bloggers have weird social skills) apply to me.
