Podcast on the Military, Oil and a Priceless Picture

We are talking yet again to military sleuths, Austin Bay and Jim Dunnigan, about recent world events. We also hear from Roger Stern of Johns Hopkins and Lynn Kiesling of Northwestern University on the rising price of oil. Surprisingly, Glenn got a call from Michael Yon today, and we added him to the podcast on the spur of the moment to discuss the taking of this photo and why he was not credited with its release. He also talks about how the blogosphere supported him in his work in Iraq and continues to help now that he is back in the US.

You can listen to the podcast here or subscribe via iTunes. Please leave any comments or suggestions below.

Is there an insta-taboo against comments? Maybe would-be commenters are too enchanted by your avatar.

A technical comment: the audio quality of whatever phone hookup Lynn Kiesling was coming through left a lot to be desired; any idea what was wrong with her connection vs. the others?

Sorry, we do the best we can by telling our interviewees to use a landline etc. but some do not have access or have a poor quality hookup. All we can do is edit as best we can but this does not always clear up a poor phoneline.

Bay and Dunnigan should be a regular feature. Thanks again.

I want to compliment both of you for continuing to bring in Jim Dunnigan and Austin Bay on discussing world political / military issues such as Darfur, and the Middle East. I always find it fascinating to listen to those two guys go back and forth on such issues. I know all of you have precious time constraints, but I'd be interested to see more shows dedicated to having them talk about those issues for the full length of the podcasts. Perhaps even have just a few extended-length podcasts of only them.

Potter,

Thanks for the suggestion--we will continue to have these two guests on but we hope they can get their own show! They have so much information to depart that many of us who are concerned with world events need to hear.

Many years ago, I used to work with Jim Dunnigan. I can count on one hand the number of truly brilliant people I have met in my life. Jim is one of them.

He an Austin should be a regular feature on your podcast.

Have you considered offering aac (iPod-style) and wma (Windows Media) versions, as well as mp3? 48k aac or wma gives about the same sound quality as 96k mp3, so you'd save bandwidth, and listeners would have smaller files to download.

The supposed peace in the Americas will last how long?
Do we have a peaceful place to show off?
What should we be doing instead of war?
What will it take to change our course back to a self-preserved nation that can manage itself productively?
We need in our opinion to focus on educating our society a bit more to prepare in handling technical jobs before it is too late.It might be too late in the respect that what new weapons we have and newer weapons we will develop will be tried on us by the unemployed/ example? All it would take is another Oklahoma City Bombing... all it would take is a lousy investigation... to blame the wrong group of individuals...
I miss movies (action too) where the characters have to figure out and remember what just happened... how we make sense of the fighting is up to who? Looks like as admitting a leader America has who says we are addicted to oil has forgotten that others remember better than him... and yes, that is a religion of forgiveness he supposedly worships... and supposedly a religion of peace America is fighting. How can I forgive and forget this? We are less protected at home now, which reasonably suggests what? And does not reasonably suggest what?
