Gary Wickert at PJM: "Defining ‘Fair’ in Obama’s ‘Paying a Fair Share’ Rhetoric."

"Fair Share" is no different than "Common Sense."

It's what I think is right/morally corrrect/advantageous/convenient/plausible/justified.

I have long been suspicious of people who routinely employ such malleable expressions. They infuse conversations with nobility without credibility. I am also skeptical of any conversation where the word deserve crops up. Like William Munny, I believe "Deserve's got nothin' to do with it."

Don't even get me started on conversations where someone talks about rights. Animal rights (they have none, with good reason), women's rights (are there men's rights?), etc.

Fluffy, sentimental, malleable, touchy-feely, vaporous...

Simple class hatred ploy. Hate those more successful than you and vote for me. Yet, we're all supposed to act as one and work together. Trouble is, a large portion have figured out they don't have to work at all. Maybe they were going Gault when going Gault wasn't cool.

Well said you two. "Fair" is newspeak for Other People's Money in this case. I am growing more and more interested in a flat or the actually fair tax.

But this guy is stuck on stupid.

the word "fair" is hypnotic in that everyone has their own definition, and this ambiguity allows the user to infer without comment, and can't be held to account.

i used to tell my children that there is no such thing as fair when they petitioned me for "fairness" in some matter. i told them that i wasn't witness to the alleged "unfairness" but i would make judgement if the appeal continued.

my kids learned pretty quickly to choose other words to describe their position.

"That's not fair!" is the whine of small children and liberals (who have the maturity of small children).

Adults know that life is not fair.
