Amanda Marcotte: Liar or Delusional?

Cathy Young ponders the question in her post: PandaGate and anti-male bigotry.

  2. I haven't been following this too closely, as I am trying to avoid all of the premature 08 election hype. Also because it is really hard for me to take John Edwards seriously under any circumstances. But when I read this, I was truly shocked by Marcotte's beyond-shrill commentary on various issues.

The fact that a presidential hopeful would give her an actual, real job working on his campaign...??? Confirmation that Edwards is a doofus.

  3. I think hysterical is the right word. In all it's various meanings. Especially the original meaning.

  4. While I'm ususally hesitant to question people's stability based on their political views, I'm inclined wonder whether Ms. Marcotte might actually be in need of some help. I don't think that level of bile or aggression (including, it seems, to herself) can be all that healthy. It's all too obviously interfered with her life and happiness. Obviously, I'm not an expert on any of this, but I can't help but wonder if we're getting used to watching people's slow self-destruction for public spectacle.

That would be a low blow if she hadn't made a point of being as provocative in an ineffectual adolescent way about that organ.

  6. Jim, you are so right! I cannot tell you how I appreciate your getting the context of my post. Thank you sir! I would NEVER have written that were it not for her posts. Given her own writing, it is quite apropos.

I was having a pretty tough day Jim, but your post feels like a turn around!

  7. I'd just heard Amanda on NPR. She's very self-absorbed and has an adolescent quality. Funnily Terry Gross, seemingly a bit fed-up, asked some rather pointed questions concerning whether she might have brought her problems onto herself, and whether she could understand how people would question her appropriateness as a campaign blogger. Amanda wouldn't concede any responsibility and kept harping on 'haters' who hated free speech and women and pretty much all that is good and light in the world, like herself. I have no idea who could have spoken to her and come away thinking that it was a good idea for Edwards to hire her.
